Are you a motivated and forward thinking Occupational Therapist looking to develop specialist skills within an acute in-patient therapy team?

An excellent and exciting opportunity has arisen to work within an innovative and dynamic team of therapists within London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust. We are looking for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapists to join our Neuro and Stroke rotations.

The Therapy Department holds a high profile within the Trust and you will be encouraged to develop your clinical, teaching and managerial skills according to the area of work setting and CPD guidelines. Support and supervision will be provided by experienced occupational therapists. Our multidisciplinary Therapies department is committed to development and offers a large range of in-service and external training to suit individual’s needs. There are new and exciting projects continually being undertaken which you will be given the opportunity to partake in.

### Main duties of the job

The long established Neuro rotation at London North West Hospital has added Neurological Outliers at Ealing hospital to its rotations.

We have a strong emphasis on teaching and training to help you develop your skills through departmental and neuro specific teaching sessions, there are also opportunities to develop more practical based skills through joint sessions with senior clinicians.

Our neuro rotations include:

- Neuro Outliers (Northwick Park and Ealing hospitals)
- Hyperacute Stroke (Northwick Park)
- Stroke rehabilitation (Northwick Park)
- RHRU (regional neuro rehab unit)- (Northwick Park)
- Stroke Early Supported Discharge team - Brent and Harrow

## Person Specification

### Knowledge and experience

**Essential**

- Knowledge of a range of neurological conditions and the impairments and functional difficulties which they may cause.
- Knowledge of key available treatment options (and their evidence base) in neurorehabilitation / disability management e.g. repetitive task specific training, cognitive rehabilitation, fatigue management, splinting and prescription of equipment / minor adaptations.
- Experience in individual and group work
- Understanding of OT outcome measures
- Knowledge and application of standardised assessments
- Ability to analyse professional and ethical issues.
- Computer literacy
- Experience of working as part of a team
- Knowledge of legislation that affects area of work
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Report writing skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Able to use negotiation and diplomacy skills with clients, staff & families

**Desirable**

- Experience in resource management and service development
- Detailed knowledge of clinical governance and its application.
- Knowledge of relevant guidelines e.g National Clinical Guideline for Stroke

### Education/ Qualifications

**Essential**

- Degree or diploma Occupational Therapy
- State registration with HCPC
- Evidence of CPD including attendance at post graduate training/courses
- Membership of RCOT
- Evidence of reflective learning
- 18 months clinical experience as a band 5

**Desirable**

- Student supervisors course
- Post graduate courses relevant to neurological rehabilitation or disability management

### Skills, abilities and attributes

**Essential**

- Documented evidence of continued professional development
- Experience of participating in audit
- Physically fit to regularly transfer patients, using equipment such as hoists and slide sheets, and transfer patients into vehicles
- Ability to work closely with patients and conduct assessments such as selfcare.
- Developed physical skills of dexterity, co-ordination and sensory skills for assessment and manual treatment of patients.
- Ability to work in occasional unpleasant conditions with odours, occasional body fluids and home visits.
- Able to work weekends and bank holidays on a rota system

**Desirable**

- Student supervisor experience
