We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and experienced midwife with specialist knowledge in safeguarding to join our team as a Specialist Midwife for Vulnerable Women and Safeguarding.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in strengthening safeguarding practice and supporting birthing individuals and their families across Worcester and Malvern. You will be based within the Cathedral Community Midwives Team and work closely with the Named Midwife for Safeguarding, Named Doctor, Integrated Safeguarding Team, locality specialist midwives, and wider safeguarding partners.

Your work will be central to ensuring a safe, responsive, and robust safeguarding service, with a focus on protecting those most at risk of abuse and serious harm.

The ideal candidate will:

- Be a registered midwife with significant clinical experience
- Have extensive knowledge of safeguarding legislation, policies, and best practice
- Demonstrate experience working with vulnerable families and complex social situations
- Be confident engaging in multi-agency working and partnership collaboration
- Possess strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills
- Be passionate about improving outcomes for women, babies, and families

As a Specialist Midwife, you will:

Represent the Trust at Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH), Strategy Meetings, and Child Protection Conferences, producing clear, concise, and evidence-based reports.

Prepare and submit court statements in accordance with legal requirements and court directives.

Work collaboratively with locality Specialist Midwives for Vulnerable Women and Safeguarding, ensuring consistency of practice and shared learning across services.

Key Duties:

To provide support, advice, education and maternity care for vulnerable women.

The Specialist Midwife will take the midwifery lead for the area of safeguarding children and vulnerable women.

The Specialist Midwife must ensure that policies and guidelines for the specialty are up to date and based on the latest evidence.

The Specialist Midwife must act as a resource for other members of the multi-disciplinary team and be able to demonstrate knowledge and competence in the specialist role.

The post holder must facilitate an environment of learning to promote the development of midwives as well as the service.

To work alongside other disciplines and agencies, to provide holistic care for the women and their families.

The Specialist Midwife must ensure that she/he maintains clinical and managerial competence through continued learning and be able to give evidence to support his/her continued practice.

General Duties:

To provide the midwifery specialist lead for vulnerable women and safeguarding children.

To attend case conferences, core groups and other appropriate meetings.

To provide alerts for the maternity unit, to ensure a plan of care is upheld.

To ensure that there are appropriate policies and guidelines to deliver a high standard of care to women and their babies, protecting the needs of the vulnerable.

To set, monitor and audit standards for vulnerable women and safeguarding children.

To provide the annual statistics required in relation to vulnerable women and safeguarding children.

To promote the agenda of national and local policies ensuring care is evidence based.

To ensure that women receive evidence based information.

To provide a safe therapeutic environment for women and their babies, conducive to their physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs.

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care.

To provide training to midwives and students either on an individual basis or as groups on vulnerable women and safeguarding children.

To establish internal and external networks within the profession to promote midwifery and your specialist role in order to meet the holistic needs of vulnerable women and their children.

To establish close working relationships with external agencies involved with vulnerable groups.

To take the lead for safeguarding supervision with teams.

To implement any actions arising from CQC safeguarding inspections.

Lead provision of care for teenage mothers

Professional:

To provide professional leadership and act in a consultative capacity for vulnerable women and safeguarding children.

Managerial Duties:

To report incidents using datix system.

To be involved in investigating incidents in relation to safeguarding children and vulnerable women.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Proven experience in all areas of midwifery.
- Experience of working in community setting
- Knowledge of all aspects of Midwifery/High risk obstetrics
- Demonstrate specialist knowledge
- Experience of teaching and mentorship within the clinical setting
- Evidence of engaging with hard to reach groups
- Evidence of making changes in practice

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Registered Midwife
- Evidence of further professional development
- Diploma/Degree or equivalent in Midwifery

- Evidence of advanced midwifery studies.
- Evidence of further education in Research/Audit
