### Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Medical Engineer to join our team on a permanent basis. This position is well-suited to a hard worker who is looking to gain further experience in a hospital environment. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of medical devices and working in a clinical environment. This role is subject to Standard DBS disclosure.

### Main duties of the job

Job Role:

- Commission, repair, maintain, overhaul and recalibrate the range of electronic equipment and medical devices in use within Bolton Hospitals FT.
- Pull reports from the department’s database to provide client information and support the monitoring of performance indicators
- Be aware of information governance regulations and cyber-security issues, particularly in relation to medical devices which may transmit data or hold patient related information
- Prioritise and negotiate with other healthcare professionals in obtaining access to medical equipment in order to perform routine maintenance and/or repairs at mutually convenient time.
- Carry out tests on equipment in the investigation of adverse incidents, evaluate results and compile incident reports, making appropriate recommendations and ensuring confidentiality.
- Act independently, promptly and efficiently in response to emergency and unpredictable situations as reported by clinicians and nursing staff.
- Applicants may be required to participate when required in an on-call rota.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

- BEng in relevant subject or HNC/HND with appropriate experience
- Fully conversant with MHRA’s Managing Medical Devices April 2015 Guidelines.
- Practical experience in electronic engineering or relevant maintenance techniques.
- Full UK Driving licence
- Use of computer and keyboard skills.
- Use of email and other MS Office software
- Working knowledge of physiological measurements

### Applicant requirements

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Bring in relevant subject or HNC/HND with appropriate experience.

**Desirable**

- Other higher appropriate qualification.
- Member of relevant association.

### Skills & Ability

**Essential**

- Ability to manage own work schedule and use initiative
- Good record keeping and computerised data input
- Use of computer and keyboard skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Excellent communications skills, written and verbal.
- Able to work under pressure.
- Driving licence

**Desirable**

- Certificated manufacturers’ training.
- Experience in the support and or supervision of more junior staff.
- Interests in practical skills.
- Flexibility with working hours.

### Experience & Knowledge

**Essential**

- Practical experience in electronic engineering or relevant maintenance techniques.
- Experience of using electronic test equipment and testing methods including IEC60601-1
- Proven knowledge of medical devices and working in a clinical environment.
- Fully conversant with MHRA’s Managing Medical Devices April 2015 Guidelines
- Practical knowledge to fault-find to component level.
- Fully conversant with electrical safety requirements.
- Use of email and other MS Office software
- Working knowledge of physiological measurements.

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of different computer software systems.
- 3 years’ experience of medical electronics and working in a hospital environment.
- Experience of working with medical gases
- Knowledge of Ventilators in the treatment of Neonatal, paediatric or critical care environment.
