There is an exciting opportunity for a committed Dietitian to join the  friendly and supportive Specialist Learning Disability Service in The West Specialist Learning Disability Service  Community.  We cover the whole of West Hertfordshire enabling us to work flexibly, with opportunities to work from home also, therefore access to a car is essential.

The successful candidate will work as an autonomous, influential and integral member of a diverse multi-disciplinary team.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will see people with a variety of clinical conditions including dysphagia, nutrition support and disordered eating.

Alongside the clinical aspect of the post, the post holder will have the opportunity to participate in assigned projects, pathway development, student training, and policy development.

Candidates should be a Registered Dietitian, with excellent communication and IT skills. A working knowledge of behaviour change and motivational interviewing would be desirable, as well as experience of working with people who have a learning disability. However we do understand some applicants may have limited experience working with learning disability service users. The post-holder will receive regular supervision from the lead dietitian and support from other specialist dietitians working within the field plus an opportunity to undertake further training as required to support the role.

**Essential**

- Able to communicate effectively in written and verbal English Language

### EXPERIENCE

**Essential**

- Significant post registration experience, some of which should be in the specialist area
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary healthcare setting
- Experience in audit and/or research

**Desirable**

- Experience of delivering care to service users with dysphagia living in the community

### ANALYTICAL SKILLS

- Planning and co-ordination of treatment packages
- Ability to use problem solving techniques
- Applied knowledge and risk assessment and management
- Broad knowledge of current evidenced based best practice in learning disability, mental health and dietetics

### Skills, Abilities and Knowledge

**Essential**

- Clear communication through written, verbal and non-verbal modes
- Good organisational, time management and ability to prioritise workload
- Evidence of behavior change/motivational interviewing techniques to support dietetic intervention
- Competent to use specialist equipment for anthropometric measurements e.g. skinfold callipers
- Commitment to reflect, engage in CPD and appraisal system
- Ability to manage distressed patients/relatives/carers and staff
- Computer literate – including the ability to use Word, PowerPoint and Excel software

### KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

**Essential**

- BSc Nutrition & Dietetics degree or equivalent
- Registered with the Health Care Professions Council
- Clinical Supervisory Skills course for training student dietitians or equivalent supervising experience
- Accredited BDA courses in specialist area e.g. Diabetes/ Paediatrics or equivalent.
- Car driver essential, or access to a car (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010 which prevents you from driving).

**Desirable**

- Experience of working with adults with learning disabilities
- Member of British Dietetic Association
