### Job overview

This is a post (10PA) for an old age specialist psychiatrist to provide medical input into the community Treatment team/memory service located in North Cumbria. The post holder is expected to have total DCC of 8 pa and a 2 pa for SPA.

Post holder will work along with multidisciplinary team covering the older people’s population in North-Cumbria.

The post holder will provide senior clinical expertise in the assessment and treatment of individuals with complex mental health problems and what are termed as at-risk mental states.

The Older Adults Community Treatment team provide assessment and treatment service, experiencing difficulty with their mental health based on episodic model of care. It is an ageless service, seeing patients with cognitive problems of any age. Those with functional psychiatric disorders are accepted into the service if they have age related needs of older people, or significant frailty.

Post holder will be expected to work closely with each other as well as local agencies such as the Crisis Team, and Inpatient services to ensure safe and timely transitions when required.

### Main duties of the job

It is envisaged that the post holder will work ten programmed activities. Following appointment there will be a meeting at no later than three months with the clinical manager to review and revise the job plan and objectives of the post holder. The overall split of the programmed activities is 8 activities to be devoted to direct clinical care and 2 pa to supporting professional activities (as per the Royal College of Psychiatrists recommendation). The timetable is indicative only. A formal job plan will be agreed between the post holder and assistant medical director or clinical manager three months after commencing the post and at least annually thereafter.

- Promote the safety and well-being of the patients we serve.

- To consider the individual and cultural needs of patients and
- To work with families and carers in the best interest of the patient (in line with the Trust Carers’ Charter)

There is also opportunity to be part of developing ongoing changes within services in the region such as

- Hope Haven the 24/7 hub which would be bring creative ways to working with other professionals and providing care for patients. The 24/7 hub will bring together a range of services under one roof while also working with the existing community service support. It is one of six pilot centres funded by NHS England and due to be launched in April 2025.
- The Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM) which is also a new venture in the region between university of Cumbria and Imperial college London. The aim is to produce doctors committed to delivering cutting-edge healthcare approaches and serve the needs of the Cumbria community.

**Essential**

- High level of clinical skills including Proven competence in diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders
- Act as a role model, educator, supervisor, coach or mentor for medical and non-medical practitioners
- Able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team

- Good teaching skills
- Demonstrate the ability to work in a time efficient manner
- Established record of clinical leadership

**Desirable**

- Established ability as a clinical teacher
- Training in specific and relevant treatment skills e.g. a brief form of psychological therapy

- Up to date knowledge in the field of Psychiatry
- Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983

- MBBS (or equivalent)
- Full Registration with the GMC (or eligible to become registered before appointment) with a licence to practice
- Completed a minimum of 12 years’ medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades
- Qualifications / Eligibility MBBS (or equivalent). Full Registration with the GMC (or eligible to become registered before appointment) with a licence to practice. Completed a minimum of 12 years’ medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades.
