### Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to join our friendly, forward thinking and collaborative team at South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. Our Dietetic Department of more than 50 staff is managed as one team, but is structured into smaller teams led by Senior Specialist Dietitians. We are actively involved in the training of Trainee Dietitians and offer A, B and C placements for both Leeds Beckett and Newcastle University.

We are looking to recruit a self-motivated and committed dietitian to join our bariatric dietetic team of 2 specialist dietitians, 1 Dietetic assistant practitioner, and 3 dietetic support workers as part of Tier 3 service.

The post holder will work alongside the Senior Specialist Dietitians and other members of the bariatric and weight management team to support and advise patients throughout their bariatric journey. This will include assessment for suitability for surgery and providing dietetic support and advice post-surgery, and in the longer term. The post holder will support service development and quality improvement within the Tier 3 weight management service. The post holder will be responsible for the ongoing training and support of the Tier 3 dietetics support workforce and the day-to-day management of the programme including involvement in research and innovation and will participate in other weight management settings.

This role sits within the Dietetic bariatric team. The bariatric MDT works closely and are supportive of dietitians.

There will be opportunities in the field of research as we look to adopt and support the AHP regional strategy. You will be supported to undertake any applicable leadership courses.

The department is friendly and supportive and encourage CPD, including regular clinical supervision and evidence-based practice groups.

Our department recognises the importance of work life balance, and we actively support flexible working within our department.

### Job responsibilities

The main duties of the job include:

To work as a member of the bariatric surgery service in conjunction with the Senior Specialist Dietitians and other members of the dietetic bariatric team.

To contribute to the development of the dietetic service for bariatric surgery patients (Tier 4)

To contribute to the development and operational management of the dietetic service for patients as they access the pre surgery education programme for Bariatric patients.

- To monitor and review the aims of nutritional care plans and recommend change or intervention to facilitate achievement of appropriate aims.
- To work collaboratively with the MDT to ensure appropriate dietetic intervention.
- To work as an autonomous practitioner within appropriate clinical and professional guidelines and as part of a team.

- To contribute to the development of dietetic resources for the pre surgery intervention programme.
- To record and evaluate data for the purpose of evaluation and audit to show the effectiveness of dietetic treatment in the pre surgery intervention programme.
- To have an active part in other weight management settings such as 1 to 1 clinics.
- To be flexible with the provision of working hours and clinic times, providing additional dietetic appointments as required. This may include weekend working as the service requires.
