Due to the need for maternity leave cover, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a psychologist to join the children and families team in Hounslow CAMHS for a full time one year fixed term contract. The team offers assessment, treatment and risk support to young people who are presenting with significant mental health problems and or risk. The psychologist will be part of the multi-disciplinary assessment clinic, will support team formulation, and undertake therapeutic work with children up to age 14 and their families/carers.

The child and family team is a multidisciplinary and friendly team, who hold team meetings in person and work collaboratively together. We have a number of psychologists working in different areas of Hounslow CAMHS, including the Mental Health Support Team, and there are opportunities for wider connection and CPD with psychologists outside of the team. The post holder will be offered high quality and consistent supervision from within the service. We are looking for a skilled, hard-working and enthusiastic psychologist who is passionate about delivering high quality and effective services to children and young people.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
- Experience of working with children and adolescents and their carer networks, including other agencies

**Desirable**

- Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts and working within a multicultural framework and context.
- Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Post-graduate doctorate in a relevant branch of applied psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or those in lateral transfer), or forensic psychology equivalent, as accredited by the BPS.
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council

**Desirable**

- Other related academic qualifications

### Knowledge & Skills

**Essential**

- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
- Skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
- Post-graduate level knowledge of research design and methodology
- Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.
- Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
- Psychomotor and IT skills necessary to administer complex psychological tests and make use of computer and audio-visual and video equipment, including database, word processing and test administration/scoring software

**Desirable**

- Knowledge and skills in specialist neuropsychological assessment and treatment with children and young people with neuro-developmental difficulties
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (e.g. children with challenging behaviour, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities etc).
- High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
- Ability to use statistical software e.g. SPSS
