An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and proactive Band 8a Senior Cancer Pharmacist with previous cancer services experience, to work as part of the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) Clinical Pharmacy team.  The post holder will lead and develop the clinical pharmacy service to cancer patients treated in an ambulatory care setting, working to optimise treatment pathways and outcomes and work with the wider ambulatory care team to pro-actively and effectively manage the service.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, as well as innovative ideas on improving service delivery and patient care.

### Main duties of the job

- Lead the clinical pharmacy service in the management of cancer patients treated in the ambulatory care service, both in terms of optimising treatment pathways and outcomes and managing the service.
- Provide both inpatient and outpatient clinical pharmacy service to both haematology (BMT/CART) and oncology patients.
- Provide specialist evidence-based advice on the safe and effective use of SACT treatments.
- Practice as an independent prescriber within a multi-disciplinary team, optimising patient outcomes and improving the patient experience.
- Management responsibilities of other members of the pharmacy team.
- Mentoring, supervision and training of pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.

## Person Specification

### Aptitudes

**Essential**

- Demonstrates tact, empathy and diplomacy when communicating confidential, sensitive, or contentious information

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or clinical oncology/haematology (BMT/CART), or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
- Prescriber registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council, or willing to undertake within an agreed timeframe
- Evidence of continuing professional development

**Desirable**

- Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
- Membership of British Oncology Pharmacy Association

### Skills and Abilities

**Essential**

- Excellent verbal/ written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to use specialist knowledge and judgement to challenge and influence prescribing
- Ability to provide advice on complex pharmaceutical issues where evidence may be lacking and opinions differ
- Problem solving skills
- Good time management skills including ability to prioritise and manage own workload and that of others
- Ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment
- Service improvement skills including the ability to collaborate with others to identify changes required, and to lead on implementing changes in own area of practice

### Knowledge and Experience

**Essential**

- Previous clinical pharmacy experience at a Band 7 level
- Experience in cancer services (haematology and oncology), including BMT/CART and clinical verification of systemic anti-cancer therapy prescriptions
- Knowledge of the legal and regulatory frameworks for the dispensing, prescribing, storage and administration of medicines
- Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team and influencing medical and nursing staff
- Experience of mentoring/training/teaching/supervising other professionals
- Experience of audits and/or research
- Experience of leadership

**Desirable**

- Experience of providing a pharmacy service to SACT ambulatory care pathway
- Knowledge and awareness of current key developments and challenges relating to cancer services
