### Job overview

- The post holder will work as a registered Biomedical Scientist and member of the Cellular Pathology team providing data, specialist scientific and technical services used for the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- This department consists of Histology and Non-Gynae cytology.
- Where appropriate the post holder will initially work under the guidance of more experienced members of staff in undertaking the scientific tasks in all sections of the department.
- Once fully trained and competently assessed the post holder is expected to work independently within the standards set by UKAS ISO 15189.
- Assisting senior staff in the on-going training of the less experienced, newly qualified and Trainee Biomedical Scientists and new staff as required will be expected.
- We welcome applicants with a genuine enthusiasm for immunohistochemistry and a solid background in IHC techniques and interpretation.

### Skills

**Essential**

- Confident in undertaking all analytical procedures
- Able to self-organise and delegate tasks as appropriate

**Desirable**

- An appreciation of the work and requirements of other departments

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- A wide ranging knowledge of Cellular Pathology
- Knowledge of Health and Safety and Good Laboratory Practice

**Desirable**

- Digital Pathology

### Experience

**Essential**

- Basic Science Skills From School and University
- Trained in a recognised diagnostic pathology laboratory
- Working within a team
- Experience in Immunohistochemistry

**Desirable**

- Proven record of problem solving and troubleshooting
- Acting on abnormal results or unexpected findings
- Knowledge of ICC NEQAS

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent
- Registration with Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Specialist Portfolio or equivalent

**Desirable**

- Member of the Institute of Biomedical sciences
- At least 3 years Histology experience post registration
