### Job summary

Royal Papworth Hospital is seeking a dynamic pharmacist to join our established trust antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) team and will have a shared responsibility for the leadership and operational delivery of a high-quality antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) programme in line with the agreed priorities for the Trust. The post holder will be working with the AMS Team to optimise antimicrobials to ensure that infections are effectively treated, patients are protected from the harms caused by unnecessary antimicrobial use and combat antimicrobial resistance.

This role offers the post holder a great deal of flexibility and we would encourage prospective candidates to get in touch to discuss the opportunities available. Royal Papworth AMS Team is a small, close multidisciplinary team and this role will work in collaboration with all clinical directorates. As a pharmacy department we are committed to supporting flexible working and continuous education. Our staff are encouraged to attend conferences and networking events, participate in research and enrol on leadership courses.

The new Cambridge South train station has opened and sits opposite the trust and provides excellent railway connections to the East of England and London, ensuring quick and convenient commuting access to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

### Main duties of the job

Responsible for providing expert pharmaceutical advice, including specialist antimicrobial advice across all clinical areas of the Trust to prescribers, clinicians, nursing staff, pharmacy colleagues and patients to deliver high quality pharmaceutical care and improve patient safety.

To work with the AMS Team to deliver trust and ICB objectives, including optimising antimicrobial prescribing, and removing inappropriate patient penicillin allergy labels.

To undertake an audit/service evaluation on behalf of the AMS Team based on previously identified needs in AMS Team annual strategy.

To work with the AMS Team to deliver training programmes and audit feedback to educate prescribers, pharmacists and nursing staff on the safe and effective use of antimicrobials.

To participate in the AMS Team journal club.

To act as a deputy to the Lead Antimicrobial Stewardship Pharmacist, providing professional input into Trust activities to deliver safe and effective Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) practices across the Trust.

Responsible for contributing directly to patient anti-infective treatment by undertaking Antimicrobial Stewardship and Infection management ward rounds to various ward areas.

Liaises with pharmacy staff and provides leadership and mentorship to deliver RPH antimicrobial priorities.

The post-holder(s) will be an independent prescriber and prescribe medicines for agreed patients within their own level of experience and competence, and in line with current legislation and local polices

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Demonstrates expert clinical knowledge and skills, through training and experience.
- Demonstrates advanced level of clinical reasoning and judgement.
- Experience in Clinical Audit.
- Experience in charge management and ability to run multiple projects concurrently.
- Highly advanced critical appraisal and drug evaluation skills.
- Experience of leadership
- Experience of supervising, mentoring and teaching

**Desirable**

- BSAC/RPC/UKCPA introduction to antimicrobial stewardship (or equivalent)
- Demonstrates active participation in Multidisciplinary healthcare research.
- Expert understanding of Primary and Secondary Care prescribing issues and commissioning practices.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- GPhC registered, practising Pharmacist.
- Master's degree in pharmacy (or equivalent).
- Higher degree/diploma in Clinical Pharmacy.
- Independent Prescriber (training will be offered if required).
- Evidence of Continued Professional development.

**Desirable**

- Management/leadership qualification.
- Faculty membership of Royal College of Pharmacy.
