### Job summary

We are looking for an experienced and professional Sonographer to join our team on a casual, 0-hours basis, providing ultrasound services across our community sites for AQP contracts or in hospitals for Trust contracts.

### Main duties of the job

Successful candidates will be expected to work independently, delivering high-quality ultrasound examinations and comprehensive diagnostic reports within their scope of practice.

Introduction

Key Responsibilities

- Undertake a range of ultrasound examinations independently, in line with company, NHS, local, regional and national guidelines.
- Provide a complete ultrasound scanning and reporting service within your scope of practice.
- Interpret ultrasound images and produce accurate, comprehensive diagnostic reports, including recommendations for further investigation or referral where appropriate.
- Work in accordance with relevant Trust protocols when delivering services on NHS Trust sites.
- Seek Radiologist review of reports where clinically appropriate and use feedback to support ongoing professional development.
- Deliver a high standard of patient care in a safe, clean and professional environment.
- Manage ultrasound sessions effectively, working closely with Diagnostic Imaging Assistants to maintain an efficient patient pathway.
- Support clinic preparation, including equipment set-up and PACS/image uploading where required.
- Manage changing patient demands and maintain a calm and professional approach in challenging situations.
- Communicate effectively with patients, referrers, clinicians and colleagues, including communicating complex or sensitive information appropriately.
- Contribute to the training and development of students, radiographers, medical staff and other healthcare professionals where required.
- Participate in clinical audit, governance and quality improvement activities.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments and best practice within medical ultrasound.
- Maintain professional standards and comply with all relevant company and NHS policies and procedures.
- Promote equality, diversity, dignity and respect in all interactions.
- Comply with health and safety, infection control, safeguarding and confidentiality requirements.

Skills & Experience Required

- Relevant postgraduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound, such as DMU, PGC/D or equivalent.
- Current professional registration, such as HCPC registration, where applicable.
- Strong clinical experience and competence across the ultrasound examinations within your scope of practice.
- Ability to scan and report independently, exercising sound clinical judgement.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain procedures and provide sensitive information to patients.
- Ability to work confidently with patients who may be anxious, distressed or have complex needs.
- Good understanding of professional standards, clinical governance, patient confidentiality and safeguarding.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining CPD and fitness to practise.
- Experience using PACS and patient management systems.
- Flexibility to work across different locations and respond to service requirements.

Professional Standards

As a Sonographer, you will be accountable for your own professional practice and clinical decisions, including the production of independent diagnostic reports. You will be expected to maintain high standards of patient care, professionalism and clinical governance at all times.

You will also be required to:

- Maintain appropriate professional registration and CPD.
- Participate in appraisal and relevant training.
- Adhere to company, NHS and site-specific policies and procedures.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with data protection requirements.
