An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic band 6 nurse to join our established Christie at Home service in a part time capacity. The service delivers SACT treatments across Greater Manchester in patients’ homes.  We currently deliver 11 different SACT treatments and are looking to expand on this in the future.  The successful candidate will be flexible and motivated and be willing to be involved in the development of this exciting initiative.

### Main duties of the job

The role will involve travelling from the main site in Withington to patients’ home across Greater Manchester and Cheshire to administer treatments. The successful candidate will also spend time in the week based at the main site on preparatory work in advance of home visits.

We are the largest single site chemotherapy treatment unit in England. As a specialist cancer Centre, Our aim is to provide an excellent quality service for all our patients both within our main Christie site and closer to the patients’ home. The Christie at home team are an integral part of the chemotherapy outreach service who are delivering treatment locally to patients throughout the Greater Manchester area in primary care centres, mobile chemotherapy unit and in partnership with other local hospital trusts.

Those who apply should demonstrate a genuine interest in the delivery of Systemic Anti cancer Treatments (SACT) in the home care setting. You will require a minimum of 24 months relevant nursing experience, have excellent communication skills, be highly motivated and be a good team player. You will be lone working when out treating patients.

You must hold a full, clean UK driving license.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

CLINICAL: 1. Assessment of the needs of the patient and family, ensuring provision of client centred care which focuses on the promotion of health as well as illness. 2. Ensure accurate documentation of patient care, in accordance with hospital policies and standards. 3. Assess educational and informational needs of patient and family, providing up to date information enabling them to participate in the planning of care. 4. Enhance care by using relevant research outcomes when planning and delivering nursing care. 5. Evaluate nursing care – inform Senior Sister and medical staff of patient’s changing healthcare needs. 6. To be a role model for potential post holders, by demonstrating competent skills.  PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: 1. In consultation with the Senior Sister to agree learning objectives designed to meet the goals of personal and professional development and undergo appropriate programmes of study. 2. Gain teaching skills by undertaking a teaching and assessing course and applying the principles in the clinical setting. 3. At the request of the Senior Sister, to accept responsibility to develop managerial skills within the clinical setting, e.g. planning duty rotas which match needs with available expertise. 7. Maintain safe practice according to Trust Policies and Standards. 8. Ensure all prescribed drugs and treatments are given in accordance with Trust Policy.  MANAGERIAL: 1. In the absence of the Senior Sister ensure staffing numbers and skill mix is appropriate to clinical needs and keep Senior Nurse Managers aware of pertinent issues in the clinical area. 2. Help foster a supportive working environment and maintenance of staff morale, promoting a culture in which staff feel valued and able to reach their potential. 3. Act as a preceptor/mentor to new staff and Pre and Post Registered Nurses. 4. Work with Senior Sister to ensure clinical standards of care are achieved and participate in audit of clinical care. 5. Awareness of responsibilities with regard to Health and Safety At Work Act. 6. Assist Senior Sister in initiating and implementing change, and in promoting an awareness of professional accountability. 7. Assist Senior Sister, when appropriate, in the recruitment of new staff to the clinical area. 8. Actively participate in Clinical Risk Assessments and ensure correct documentation of Clinical Incidents in accordance with Hospital Policy.  EDUCATION: 1. Maintain own awareness of current nursing practice. Use relevant educational opportunities to maintain the highest standards and up to date care offered to the patient with cancer. 2. Supervise clinical staff and disseminate knowledge and current developments. 3. Participate in planned programmes of appraisal with the Senior Sister. 4. Liaise with the School of Nursing, participating in the teaching of basic and post basic learners and training assessments.
