We are a Major Trauma Centre and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit, providing specialist care to North East London and beyond. Our Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) pathways continue to expand and evolve in response to patient and service needs. The SDEC team at The Royal London Hospital was recognised as a finalist and received high commendation at the HSJ Awards 2024 and more recently, we have been shortlisted as finalists for the Patient Care Awards 2026 for our innovative SDEC pathway addressing nitrous oxide-related neurological harm. Our team has also contributed to the wider evidence base through published work on hypertension management, admission avoidance pathways and on nurse-led pathways including self-administration of intramuscular injections. In addition, our Emergency Department was honoured with the Barts Health Hero Award in 2025/26 in the Patient’s Choice category. ### Main duties of the job - To provide the highsted standard of individualised and holistic patient care, in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team. - Work collaboratively with Emergency Department (ED) nursing, medical and operational team to provide care that is safe and effective. - Supports the example set by the Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses to act as a senior nurse providing managerial support to the multidisciplinary team. - To act as a role model to junior members of staff. - To work within the NMC Code of Conduct, Trust policies, guidance and procedures to ensure safe working practice of self and others. - To take chage of the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) when required to do so. - Strive to work within the National targets for Emergency Departments and Same Day Emerngency Care Services. - To line manage a group of emergency department assistants and staff nurses. - To engage with quality improvement projects to enhance patient and staff experience. - To advocate and expedite the journey for suitable ED ambulatory patients by monitoring flow through ED and pulling appropriate patients into the ambulatory care service. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities The full job description provides an overview of the key tasks and responsibilities of the role, and the person specification outlines the qualifications, skills, experience, and knowledge required.
