An exciting development opportunity has arisen for a band 6 nurse to join the Christie bloods closer to home and Outpatient service. There is a full time 37.5 hour permanent post to lead sact outpatient and phlebotomy service. We are looking for enthusiastic and NMC registered nurses with a passion for caring for oncology patients, to join our dedicated team.

The roles will include supporting outpatient and blood clinics at our Christie main site as well as local phlebotomy clinics, closer to patient’s homes.

We are a caring, well-led service, with good staff to patient ratios.

### Main duties of the job

If you were to be successful, you would be supporting a team of healthcare assistants within the peripheral blood clinics, outpatient clinics and local phlebotomy as well as having hands on experience dealing with poorly patients.  You will be provided with full support and work closely with our other band 6 and will be expected to cover each other’s leave. The phlebotomy service currently operates Monday – Saturday and provides 13 Phlebotomy clinics per week, across Greater Manchester and Cheshire. The service is operational on Bank Holidays. The local phlebotomy service is expanding which you will be required to support but also involvement with the setup of new clinics. We are an innovative and forward-thinking unit, which is dedicated to reviewing and developing the ways that we work for the needs of our patients. We are welcoming to new ideas and would look forward to working with nurses who have a genuine passion for caring for patients in this field.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- To deputise for and support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
- Be responsible for and maintain a safe environment, escalating issues appropriately
- Monitor clinics in compliance with Trust policy, monitoring and escalating breaches
- Provide a welcoming and approachable management support ethic for all staff and act as mentor to designated staff ensuring each staff member participates in a personal development plan and act to maximise the potential of others
- Act as team leader ensuring that they are compliant with training requirements.
- Assess, plan and implement clinical care and maintain associated patient records.
- To organise daily work schedule ensuring appropriate and effective skill mix and deployment of staff for appropriate patient needs
- To have an awareness of the staff and non staff budget
- Be aware of Health and Safety issues and ensure relevant risk assessments are undertaken.
- Report and record all accidents and complaints according to the agreed policy, investigating speedily and compassionately
- Ensure all trust policies and procedures are adhered to and new ones implemented as necessary
- Regularly liaise and report to senior nursing and service managers on unit affairs and staff development.
- Assist in nursing recruitment process when required
- Take a progressive approach to the management of short and long-term sickness/absence in collaboration with the senior sister/charge nurse
- maintains patient records to ensure information is accurate and up to date for future reference and complies with the Data Protection Act 2018, schedules meetings to fit with other standing diary commitments, prepares care plan to ensure the delivery of effective patient care.

TRAINING & EDUCATION

- Participate and undertake research and audit which will influence practice
- To be up to date in all IV training programs including annual updates and competent in all areas of clinical practice including assessment of critically ill patient and competent in performing ECG’s
- Attend all mandatory study days

PROFESSIONAL

- Act as a resource giving advice and support to nursing staff regarding emergency admissions and associated issues
- Liaise closely with the medical team and other members of the MDT in respect of patient care promoting the highest standard of care
- To develop and maintain a professional interest in all aspects of nursing and associated research
- To actively seek to review unit performance and workflow, identifying areas for improvement/development, and developing strategies to progress these.
