### Job summary

This is an exciting new role with the Care of the Elderly. There is an opportunity of a combination of x1 full time (34.5 hours) and x1 part time (23 hours) positions available.

Gate 42 is a busy mixed elderly medical ward (Gate 42b) and neck of femur fracture ward (Gate 42a). Therefore, the unit takes direct admissions from the Emergency Department or from Gate 41 which is our assessment area. We aim to provide high quality care to all our patients and ensure a safe and caring staff experience.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate individual to join our existing band 6 team on Gate 42 at Pinderfields Hospital.

We are also looking for dynamic individuals who can ensure the consistent delivery of high quality patient centred care to the patients within our ward.

Your role will also involve maximising patient flow to ensure that patients are admitted from the emergency department.

The successful candidate will be expected to work clinically, use your clinical leadership in decision making with the support from the ward manager and ensure patient safety.

To be considered for this post, you must have clinical experience and preferrable Orthopaedic/NOF experience.

### Main duties of the job

- Strive for continuous improvements in the delivery of high quality patient focused care.
- Participate within the ward team including the delegation of work on a day to day basis for junior staff.
- Organise own workload and support junior staff to time manage and prioritise.
- Plan and manage skill mix to reflect the workload and meet the needs of the patients, including using the e-rostering system effectively.
- Recognise areas of conflict and assist in the management of this to promote a healthy working environment.
- In the absence of the Ward Manager take responsibility for maintaining staff records e.g. sickness, annual leave, taking appropriate action where necessary.
- Assist in the orientation/ induction of new staff, nursing students, allied health professionals and medical staff.
- Mentor and supervise pre and post registered staff; demonstrate procedures to pre and post registered nursing staff without direct supervision, always promoting a high standard of best practice, quality nursing care.
- Ensure that nursing practices comply with Trust policies and procedures and are maintained at the highest standard.
- Within the frame of clinical governance assist the senior sister/ charge nurse to be proactive in responding to and investigating complaints, clinical and non-clinical incidents to ensure robust systems are in place for informing and improving evidence based practice.
