Our educational activities include teaching programmes related to patient safety, Human Factors and team training. This is an exciting time to join our team as Simulation Education Fellow and would be suited to a doctor who has successfully completed their Foundation training or Basic Specialist training and who is interested in a career in medical education. The post is 4 days a week, providing opportunity for one day a week of clinical work in a speciality of choice, subject to discussions and agreements in advance. Working alongside our expert simulation team, you will develop personal skills around writing, developing and delivering simulation based teaching, and debriefing skills. You will be responsible for organising teaching programmes and programme evaluation, working with multiprofessional colleagues  to ensure programmes meet learner needs. For further information about the post, please contact Prof. Brigitte Scammell, Clinical Educator Lead for simulation – \[email protected\] or Giulia Miles, Simulation and Human Factors Lead \[email protected\] ### Main duties of the job - You will have the opportunity to develop and extend your knowledge and practice in research methodology  that applies to educational practice or outcomes and /or Human Factors. It is expected that activity undertaken whilst in post will result in providing presentations to local, national meetings,and  publication of abstracts and papers. - You will work with Centre clinical education lead and multiprofessional Simulation Education team to develop and deliver high quality multiprofessional simulation and skills based education to doctors in training, medical students, nurses and allied health professionals. - Take a lead role in the development and achievement of education research projects related to educational excellence and application to practice to support delivery of safe practice. - Actively contribute to the design, development, piloting and evaluation of course programmes including technology enhanced learning. This will include taking a lead role in quality assurance of advanced simulation programmes, ensuring courses respond to changing learner needs and curricula/commissioner requirements. - Contribute to the organisation of regular departmental research and “journal club‘ meetings for simulation teaching and patient safety/human factors - You will have the opportunity to undertake a postgraduate certificate in medical education (start autumn 2026)  of which 50% funding is available, up to a maximum of £2000. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities Please see the attached the Job Description and Person Specification for key duties and responsibilities. ## Person Specification ### Other **Essential** - Commitment to personal and professional development - Self-starter, motivated, shows initiative and enthusiasm - Able to travel across region/nationally - Occasionally able to start early/finish late, occasional weekend working **Desirable** - Actively seeks to develop own knowledge, skills and ability ### Experience **Essential** - 12 months working as a doctor in the UK in an acute medical or surgical speciality - Evidence of acute and/or specialist medicine/surgery training - Evidence of designing and delivering clinical teaching to undergraduates and/or postgraduates - Enthusiastic and experienced in teaching clinical skills in the workplace or training environment **Desirable** - Evidence of designing and/or successfully delivering high fidelity simulation based training - Evidence of designing and/or successfully delivering inter-professional learning - Evidence of incorporating Human Factors in an educational setting - Evidence of designing and/or successfully delivering technology enhanced learning e.g. VR, AR ### Physical Skills **Essential** - Able to move /lift relevant teaching materials aids as necessary for the delivery of teaching programmes ### Training and Qualifications **Essential** - MBBS or equivalent - Full GMC Registration with a License to Practise - Completed Foundation training in a UKFPO by time of appointment or equivalent - Evidence of satisfactory / more than satisfactory progress through training, including an Outcome 1 at Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP) - Evidence of clinical competencies in your specialty appropriate for your stage in training **Desirable** - - Teaching qualification - - ALS or ATLS Instructor ### Analytical and Judgement Skills **Essential** - Evidence of capacity to use logical / lateral thinking to solve problems / make decisions, indicating an analytical / scientific approach and, where appropriate, creativity in problem solving - Evidence of completed audit or quality improvement project. **Desirable** - Evidence of participation in a clinically-based and/or educational research project with involvement at key stages (design, data collection, analysis, preparation of abstracts and final paper). - Evidence of completed a closed loop audit or quality improvement project. ### Planning and Organisation Skills **Essential** - Excellent organisational abilities - Ability to forward plan - Ability to keep on track to deliver sustainable outcomes - Time management and prioritisation skills - Adept in using MS Office (Excel;
