### JOB SUMMARY

This post will provide clinical service within the paediatric SLT Teams dependent on clinical need and staffing demands. This will be an opportunity to develop skills and experience by working within a range of caseloads and teams.

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of a high quality Specialist Speech and Language Therapy service across a range of services which could include; pre-school / school age children with a range of complex communication difficulties and/or DLD in association with physical and/or learning difficulties and/or special educational needs within Learning Support Centres, Special Schools and Clinics dependent on service needs.

The post holder will be responsible for planning and prioritizing own caseload that will involve working with children who have a range of complex communication disorders and associated medical and developmental difficulties. The post will require working closely and effectively with Multi-Disciplinary and Multi-Agency Teams, Health & Social Care and Education and liaising closely with parents and carers.

The service will be provided in accordance with local and national guidelines.

### KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications

Clinical Assessment and Treatment

1 Participate in the planning, organisation and delivery of specialist Speech and Language Therapy service to children with complex needs/DLD/ Physical and/or Learning Difficulties/Special Educational Needs.

2 Provide diagnostic assessment, plan, implement and evaluate individual therapy programmes for the client group and be responsible for management of own caseload.

3 Make onward referrals to other professionals and refer clients to Senior Clinical Speech and Language Therapy Specialists as appropriate for specialist assessment, intervention or advice.

4 Work as part of and collaborate effectively within Health and Education Multi-Disciplinary Teams in Health and Social Services and Education settings in order to meet the needs of the client group.

5 Contribute to the SEN Statutory assessment process at all stages for children with Physical and/or Learning Disabilities/Special Educational Needs.

6 Prepare and submit timely clinical reports for routine and/or statutory purposes and be involved in case conferences/relevant meetings as required.

7 Maintain clinical case notes and statistics according to professional and Trust policy.

8 Organise school, domiciliary and community visits as required in line with Speech and Language Therapy policy.

9 Initiate and maintain effective liaison both formally and informally with carers, other professionals and agencies relevant to the client group.

10 Carry out administrative duties required within the post.

Personal and People Development

1 Undertake agreed development programme to extend professional skills, knowledge and expertise in specialist clinical area, including attending relevant Courses and Conferences.

2 Seek and accept regular support, clinical and case supervision and second opinions from designated Senior Speech and Language Therapists / Operational Lead

3 Provide clinical teaching and supervision of undergraduate Speech and Language Therapists on specialist placement.

4 Provide case advice and information to carers and other professionals and participate in delivery of training as required.

5 Provide clinical support, advice and guidance for less experienced colleagues including SLT Assistants as appropriate and agreed with manager.

6 Delegate activities appropriately and supervise delivery of Speech and Language Therapy programmes by other staff and carers.

Service Improvement & Quality

1 Participation in Research and Development activities to the client groups including implementing and evaluating current assessment and treatment techniques and service provision in close liaison with Senior SLT colleagues and Operational Lead.

2 Participate in local and national quality and uni/multi professional audit initiatives as requested by Operational Lead.

3 Participate in the development of new and innovative service delivery models and resources applicable to the caseload.

4 Proactively provide timely information to Senior Clinical Specialists and Operational Lead on all relevant matters to enable effective service monitoring, planning and development.

5 Implement, contribute and make recommendations for the development of Speech and Language Therapy policies and procedures relevant to the specialist caseload.

6 Care for and maintain all clinical equipment and materials used and inform Operational Lead of resource requirements.

7 Adhere to professional clinical standards for the client group.

8 Be aware of and adhere to Trust, Team and professional standards, guidelines and current legislation relevant to the post.

9 Attend and participate in all relevant staff meetings.
