### Job summary

We are seeking to recruit a senior shoulder fellow in Trauma & Orthopaedics. This post is suitable for a senior post-CCT trainee who would like to improve their skills in the management various shoulder and elbow conditions.

The hospital A&E has 70,000 attendances per year and helicopter landing facilities. The hospital also has an ambulatory care ward incorporating 7 theatres, 2 of which are used exclusively for hand surgery. The New Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham provides an elective and trauma service for the West Midlands. The Centre accepts secondary and tertiary referrals for both civilian and military patients.

### Main duties of the job

The post offers comprehensive approach to shoulder surgery including specialist trauma, advanced arthroscopic techniques and shoulder arthroplasty. The fellow is expected to be involved in research projects and teaching. Also will be part of the faculty of the annual shoulder arthroscopy course:

### Job responsibilities

The Fellow will play a crucial role in the shoulder/elbow team, having access to elective & trauma theatre sessions and outpatient clinics. This will involve complex acute shoulder and elbow trauma and elective conditions. A key element of the role will be liaising with other specialties, such as plastic surgery & microbiology, in the day to day management of the more complex multiply injured trauma cases.

This job is suitable for a post-FRCS (Orth) or post-CCT trainee who is looking for experience in the field of shoulder and elbow surgery and is committed to a career in this field. Previous experience in this field is desirable but not essential. . Good communication skills are essential, as this post involves liaising with multidisciplinary teams.

The fellow will be responsible for the day to day administration of the team clinical inpatient load. This will involve pre-operative planning and post-operative care in conjunction with the consultant. There are no on-call commitments for this post.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- A minimum of 3 years full time post graduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) or equivalent experience or competencies
- experience in Trauma & Orthopaedics with acute on-call commitments

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Medical Degree from a recognised University
- MRCS or equivalent
- ATLS or European Trauma Course qualification
