The senior clinical nurse for Urology will be able to make informed decisions and have managerial responsibility for nursing service delivery across urology specialist nursing services. The roles focus will be to improve overall patient experience and patient outcomes, for patients with urological conditions using services improvement and quality methodology and be responsive to challenging healthcare needs and advances in practice. The post holder will engage directly with medical and nursing teams in the management of benign and cancer urology patients, providing leadership of the services, advice, collaboration, and consultancy ensuring that patients gain appropriate and timely care. In addition, they will develop consistent approaches to the strategic management of the patient group, through training and education, policy and guideline development, audit and research and implementation of evidence based care. Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP. ### Main duties of the job The role of the Senior Urology Clinical Nurse is a dynamics proactive and pioneering role. The senior nurse will be able to make informed decisions and support the lead urology nurse with managerial responsibility for the nursing service delivery across the urology pathway both benign and cancer.  The focus of the role will be to improve the patient experience and patient outcomes, for patient with speciality related conditions using service improvement and quality methodology and be responsive to challenging healthcare needs and advances in practice. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities - Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times. - Highly developed communication skills enabling maintenance of high- quality service within a complex and challenging environment with often, conflicting priorities. - Responsible for the provision of a high- quality professional nursing service across the urology service promoting best practice and implementing a review process that looks at quality and efficiency to meet the needs of patients and service. - Contributes to development and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines across a number of departments, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice. - Support with budget responsibilites,  resources across urology services monitoring variance and implementing contingency plans as appropriate, e.g. bank, agency expenditure and sickness. - Support the Divisional Director of Operations with the General Manager in ensuring service objectives are met. Support the Lead Urology Nurse in developing nursing services, deputising as required.) - Responsible for the efficient management of processes e.g. complaints within a defined area e.g. complaints; training and development; appraisal and patient flow. - Utilise information and IT systems to produce accurate and timely workforce and resource data and reports. - Responsible for development, implementation and evaluation of projects to improve patient care and service development through the audit cycle, linking to the clinical governance framework and business planning process. - Undertake direct workload requiring moderate to high physical effort according to patient dependency or staff need. - Demonstrate through effective leadership the ability to provide professional and emotional support to individuals and groups, e.g. during difficult situations or unexpected events. Please be advised the interviews for this post will take place week commencing  24/08/2026. ## Person Specification ### Knowledge **Essential** - - A proven track record of effective leadership in nursing and across multi-professional groups - Highly developed motivational skills and a strong commitment to staff involvement and empowerment - Persuasive with strong influencing skills - Highly developed problem solving, critical appraisal and independent decision making skills with appropriate reference to others - Evaluation and clinical audit experience - Appraisal and application of research in practise - Ability to work under pressure and prioritise - Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally - Basic IT skills - Working knowledge of government strategies related to the NHS **Desirable** - - Evidence of conducting research - Evidence of peer reviewed articles - Evidence of conference presentations ### Experience **Essential** - - Extensive post registration clinical experience of working in urology services at a senior nursing level - A breadth of current or very recent experience in working with patients at an advanced level in the acute sector - Evidence of leadership development - Experience of developing and implementing programmes of training in urology for all levels of staff - A knowledge of national urology standards and innovation. - Previous experience working at Band 7 and above **Desirable** - - Undertake Botox or Flexible cystoscopy - Independently report on reporting of Urodynamics - Willingness to undertake and complete training for LATP biopsy and TULA ### Qualifications **Essential** - - 1st Level registered Nurse Current NMC Registration - Study at level 6 (Degree/Diploma) Evidence of advanced of learning at Masters level - A portfolio of career-long learning and relevant clinical experience **Desirable** - - Registered teaching qualification - Willingness to study to completion of Masters and/or doctorate level. - Urodynamics training/course - Completion or near completion of Non-Medical Prescribing Course ### Commitment to Trust Values and Behaviours **Essential** - - Must be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust’s values.
