The role:

The Mental Health Assessment Unit (MHAU), as part of the Unscheduled Care Service, seeks to provide an exciting opportunity for two Band 5 Registered Mental Nurses to uptake a WTE 12 month fixed term post. The MHAU offers a same day face to face assessment, diagnosis and treatment options to those who would ordinarily come to the attention of emergency services. Referrals are accepted from Emergency Departments within GG&C, Police Scotland, Scottish Ambulance Service, GP’s and NHS24. Assessments are offered within the units and an outreach facility is available where indicated. The successful candidate will ideally have excellent communication skills and be familiar in completing a MH assessment. Awareness of community services and resources would be advantageous. As would a full driving licence. The role would provide the successful candidate with a chance to work within a dynamic and exciting environment liaising with professionals from other agencies. A robust teaching programme is embedded within the service.

The MHAUs are based within the Leverndale and Stobhill sites.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

- Location based in McLeod Suite, Leverndale Hospital, 510 Crookston Road, Glasgow G53 7TU
- Fixed-Term Contract for 12 months
- Full-time position (36 hours per week)
- Shift pattern for this post are 3 x 12 hour shifts over 7 days

Key responsibilities:

- The holistic assessment of care needs including risk assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care.
- Carrying out all relevant forms of nursing care pertinent to the needs of individual patients in the least restrictive and disruptive manner as possible.
- Identifying and responding to the health promotion needs of patients focusing on improving the mental and physical well-being of patients
- Identifying and responding to the needs of patients which might be related to vulnerability, gender, health, domestic abuse, child protection and/ or self harm.
- Recognises the principles of the quality dignity and respect which takes into account spiritual and cultural diversity.
- Working within agreed competency based parameters undertake evidence based psychological therapies/ psychological approaches to care with individuals and/ or group settings where required.
- Work in partnership with patients and carers using values based practice to deliver person centred care promoting and supporting mental well being and prevention of relapse
- Participation in regular caseload /line management supervision and regular performance appraisal process including a Professional Development Plan (PDP).
- Participating in regular Clinical Supervision/ reflective practice
- Monitoring the practice of others including Healthcare Support Workers/ junior members of staff to whom aspects of patient care has been delegated, including the provision of relevant support and development where required.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

### Essential:

- Registered Mental Health Nurse - level 1 NMC registration
- Educated to or actively working towards minimum degree level/ or equivalent
- Working knowledge and application of mental health nursing care (including physical healthcare)
- Evidence of active and ongoing CPD
- Working knowledge of mental health / mental illness/ wellness and recovery

### Desirable:

- Completion of a mentor preparation programme/ registered mentor
- Completion of an evidence based psychological therapies/ psychological approaches to care programme
- Experience of working in the community environment
