The role:

The Mental Health Assessment Unit (MHAU), as part of the Unscheduled Care Service, seeks to provide an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Registered Mental Nurse to uptake a WTE 12 month secondment. The MHAU offers a same day face to face assessment, diagnosis and treatment options to those who would ordinarily come to the attention of emergency services. Referrals are accepted from Emergency Departments within GG&C, Police Scotland, Scottish Ambulance Service, GP’s and NHS24. Assessments are offered within the units and an outreach facility is available where indicated. The successful candidate will ideally have excellent communication skills and be familiar in completing a MH assessment. Awareness of community services and resources would be advantageous. As would a full driving licence.

The role would provide the successful candidate with a chance to work within a dynamic and exciting environment liaising with professionals from other agencies. A robust teaching programme is embedded within the service. The MHAUs are based on the Leverndale and Stobhill hospital sites

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

- Location based in Leverndale Hospital
- Fixed-term or Secondment Contract for 9 months.
- Full-time position (36 hours per week)
- Shift pattern for this post are 3 x 12 hour shifts over 7 days

Key responsibilities:

- Assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation of care.
- Assessing and advise hospital staff of observation levels required for patients.
- Ensuring referrals are recorded and actioned within timescales set out in operational standards. The post holder will be a resource for referrers advising on criteria for referral to the team.
- The management of their own workload.
- The post will also cover the Mental Health Triage Car working alongside Scottish Ambulance Paramedic Service.
- Identifying and responding to the health promotion needs of patients.
- Establishing and participating in systems of practice support and caseload supervision for junior staff.
- Liaising with professional and voluntary agencies to provide specialist mental health advice, arranging and contributing to multidisciplinary/agency meetings and case conferences.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

### Essential:

- Registered Mental Health Nurse - level 1 NMC registration
- Educated to minimum degree level/ or equivalent experience
- Specialist knowledge and application of mental health nursing care for people with complex / unstable care needs
- Specialist knowledge and application of risk assessment/ risk management factors impacting on metal health/ mental illness/ wellness and recovery for people with complex/ unstable care needs
- Evidence of active and ongoing CPD
- Evidence of Line Management Supervision/ Clinical Supervision and care coordination of senior staff

### Desirable:

- Completion of an evidence based psychological therapies / psychological approaches to care (formal programme of study)
- Completion of frontline leadership/ management programme
- Actively working towards or above postgraduate level/ or equivalent
- Experience of working in the community environment
