We have a unique and exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Therapy Assistant to join us where you will be welcomed into a fantastic, established, multi-disciplinary team at Royal Preston Hospital.

### Main duties of the job

Your main duties will be face to face contact with patients to support the therapy team. You should have clinical experience of working with complex neurological patients and have the skills to support delivery of treatment plans to achieve long term rehabilitation goals. You will need to possess excellent communication skills. Therapeutic handling skills, personal care activities and splinting are used daily. Experience of using IT for procurement of equipment and working well within a team are essential.

Your main responsibilities will be to support the therapy team to provide assessment and treatment to patients following a neurological event. This will include individual work, joint working and group work in the future. Your role in the team may include completing transfers, mobility and exercise programmes under the guidance of the Physiotherapists. With the OTs your role will include shopping, cooking, insight, attentional and memory work. To  support in the provision of out patient spasticity clinic and to complete the training and competencies required.

In recognition of the need for enhanced provision, the Integrated Therapy Service is looking to move towards 7 day working, and as such the successful candidate will be expected to support this model of care when it is implemented.

- Able to provide sensitive personal care interventions
- An ability to learn independently and apply knowledge to role.
- Skills in dealing with challenging patients/behaviours
- An ability to communicate with patients using a range of approaches
- An ability to communicate with patients with cognitive and behavioural problems
- Able to move and handle safely and use therapeutic handling techniques under direction
- Clear and accurate reporting and recording skills
- An ability to identify, assess and respond to patient needs

**Desirable**

- Experience of leading / supporting group work
- Experience of normal movement techniques and therapeutic moving and handling

### Qualifications and Education
