### Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Senior staff nurse to join our team on the private patients ward at the Royal Brompton hospital.

Sir Reginald Wilson ward is a specialist cardiothoracic/cardiology ward, where we care for a variety of patients with cardiac and lung problems, working collaboratively with multiple medical teams. our caseload includes patients with congenital heart conditions, heart failure, inherited cardiovascular disease, infective endocarditis.

We also look after patients post complex cardiac and lung surgery and post structural procedures (such as TAVI and TEER).  We are a leading and innovative nursing and AHP centre providing exceptional care and patient experience. We are a dedicated, supportive and ambitious team offering excellent training and development opportunities.

### Main duties of the job

The staff nurse will work across the team to support junior staff in looking after a varied range of specialist cardiothoracic/cardiology patients, offering unique opportunities to develop skills and experience in cardiothoracic/cardiology care.

The post holder will be required to provide the highest standard of individualised and holistic patient care in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, supervise and teach junior members of staff, learn as required and maintain their own personal development with support from the ward manager and senior nurse.

### Skills

- Leadership skills
- Proficient in Phlebotomy & cannulation
- Clear understanding of cardiac arrhythmias and treatment
- Pacing Knowledge
- Good clinical skills & a commitment to develop them further.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Registered Nurse - valid NMC PIN
- Specialist course relevant to the area e.g. Cardiology/cardiothoracic nursing
- Preceptor & Practice Supervisor qualification
- Experience of EPIC
- Has attained or is working towards a MSc.

**Desirable**

- ECG Course

### Experience & Knowledge

**Essential**

- Significant acute cardiology, cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery experience
- Minimum of 8 months experience as the nurse in charge within an acute Private Patients area
- High dependency nursing experience
- Experience of low dose Inotrope support
- Experience in the supervision of junior staff and others
- ACHD nursing experience
- Pulmonary Hypertension nursing experience
- Able to interpret standard ECG's

**Desirable**

- Experience of change management
- Knowledge of research and audit
- Experience of dealing with challenging situations.
