### Job overview

The Senior Staff Nurse / Midwife for Post‑Birth Contraception plays a key role in delivering high‑quality contraception care and supporting maternity staff through expert clinical guidance.

The purpose of the role is to work collaboratively with maternity teams to ensure timely post‑pregnancy contraception prior to discharge from inpatient settings. This includes providing antenatal contraception counselling and facilitating postnatal access to each patient’s chosen method, including LARC options (implants, injectables, POP, condoms), and arranging referrals for intrauterine device fitting in community clinics.

The post holder will also offer professional expertise in contraception practice within maternity services, providing advice, information, and support to both patients and colleagues to promote safe, effective, and person‑centred care.

### Main duties of the job

Act as a clinical expert providing specialist knowledge and advice to midwives,  nurses and junior medical staff working within the unit. Act as a resource to other areas within the Trust as required.

To be proactive in supporting the midwifery and nursing teams, and acting as a positive role model always promoting best clinical and professional practice.

Demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills. Be actively involved in recruitment and staff development reviews. Facilitate orientation and training programmes.

To act as nursing or midwifery / department representative at local and wider meetings.

To participate and assist with systematic monitoring of performance and evaluation of nursing / midwifery practice.

Non-judgemental attitude to all ages, sexualities, genders and ethnicities. Good understanding of the specific needs of certain groups.

- Evidence of commitment to research-based practice or evidence of project work undertaken

### Qualifications & Training

- Has Letter of Competence for Subdermal Implants – Insertion & Removal
