### Job overview

Are you a highly motivated individual with experience in working children and families? We are looking for a Band 7 Occupational Therapist (OT) to work within the paediatric OT service at the Evelina London Children's Hospital, at the St Thomas' Hospital site. This is a fixed term post covering a secondment until July 2027.

This post is responsible for leading and developing our service provided to children requiring long term ventilation. This involves working on our home from home long term ventilation unit on Snow Leopard ward and also with respiratory patients on paediatric intensive care and general paediatric wards.

Occupational therapy can help babies, children and young people learn and play, so that they can develop, and reach their full potential and adapt to life with ventilation requirements. Occupational therapy enables them and their families to participate in daily life to improve their health and wellbeing.

### Main duties of the job

Part of your role will involve assessing children’s development and occupational performance -providing advice and therapy as required. As well as working in collaboration with families to screen their home environment and provide assessment and advice for suitable equipment.

You will work in partnership with the respiratory team and other specialist teams within the hospital as well as the child’s local therapy services to support the family’s transition home.

Your role will involve working closely with the occupational therapists in the inpatient team and will provide cover across other hospital wards.

The successful applicant will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, as liaison multi-disciplinary and with our community colleagues in health, education and social services is essential.

## Person Specification

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- - Knowledge of respiratory conditions and presentations
- - Specialist knowledge, application and analysis of standardised & non standardised assessment tools appropriate to clinical setting and patient cohort
- - Ability to deliver interventions which maximise function and participation for CYP with LTV and/or acute medical needs
- - Clinical skills of assessment and intervention for early intervention including developmental care
- - Ability to manage and recognise differences of opinion in both patient related and inter-professional settings coping positively with interpersonal tensions/barriers.
- ability to implement principles of clinical governance including risk management

**Desirable**

- - Knowledge of splinting techniques
- - Knowledge of specialist paediatric equipment

### Experience

**Essential**

- - Clinical experience in paediatrics at senior level including acute paediatric experience
- - Experience of working with children or adults with long term ventilation and respiratory difficulties
- - Experience working in a PICU/Critical Care setting
- - Experience of complex discharge planning, including assessment of home environment and liaison with health, social care and education services
- proven experience of delivering supervision, education and training to staff, MDT and families

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- - Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
- - HCPC Registration
- - Masters level or equivalent training in specialist area or evidence of significant practical experience, research or publication in specialist area.

**Desirable**

- Evidence of post graduate professional development
