Are you a highly motivated individual who has experience of working with children and families and would like to be part of Evelina London Children’s Hospital Team?

Due to secondment and service-wide changes, we currently have an opportunity for experienced and enthusiastic paediatric occupational therapists to join the Evelina London  Children’s Hospital inpatient Occupational Therapy team in the following roles:

- Band 7 Senior Specialist Occupational Therapist: LTV and Critical Care Lead (Full time, 12 month fixed term)
- Band 7 Senior Specialist Occupational Therapist: Cardiac and NeuroDevelopmental Care Lead (Full time, permanent)

Occupational therapy can help babies, children and young people learn and play, so that they can develop, and reach their full potential and adapt to life with complex medical conditions. Occupational therapy enables them and their families to participate in daily life to improve their health and wellbeing.

### Main duties of the job

Your role will involve working on the cardiac ward, critical care and Paediatric Intensive Care units, assessing infant and child development and occupational performance, working in collaboration with families to set goals and provide individualised advice and early intervention as required. You will provide neuro-developmental surveillance to these high risk infants and refer to community services to ensure children meet their developmental potential.

Your role will involve working closely with the occupational therapy and wider multidisciplinary inpatient teams and you will support with providing cover across other hospital wards.

The successful applicant will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, as liaison with the multi-disciplinary team and with our community colleagues in health, education and social services, is essential.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- - Postgraduate clinical experience working with adults or children with complex health needs
- - Experience working in a PICU/Critical Care setting
- - Clinical experience of working with infants and under 2s in an acute setting
- - Experience of multidisciplinary team working and multi- agency working.
- - Proven experience in the training, teaching and supervision of others.

**Desirable**

- - Minimum 5 years clinical experience
- - Experience of working with long term ventilation and respiratory difficulties

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- - Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
- - HCPC Registration
- - Masters level or equivalent training in specialist area or evidence of significant practical experience, research or publication in specialist area.

### Knowledge and Skills

**Essential**

- - Specialist knowledge of complex cardiac conditions and impact on function and child development
- - Knowledge of child development and ability to apply within an acute clinical setting.
- - Knowledge of early intervention approaches, including developmental care principles
- - Ability to apply Clinical Governance principles to practice.
- - Ability to manage and recognise differences of opinion in both patient related and inter-professional settings, coping positively with inter-professional tensions/ barriers.

**Desirable**

- - Knowledge of splinting techniques
- - Knowledge of respiratory conditions
