Experience of working independently and without supervision performing a wide range of routine and complex examinations designated by the Lead Sonographer. - Experience of performing interventional procedures such as fine needle aspirations, core biopsies and drainages under ultrasound guidance as authorised by appropriate schemes or work and protocols. - Experience of providing teaching and development for trainee sonographers, radiologists and students. - Experience of supervising, training and appraising student sonographers and Radiology registrars. - Experience of participating in clinical governance and audit. - Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team and deputising for the Lead Sonographer in their absence. **Desirable** - Experience in other clinical areas, for example SACU and A&E, to improve inter-professional working. - To position patients accurately for each examination, adapting techniques in accordance with the patient's needs. - To optimise the ultrasound scanner using excellent hand-eye co-ordination to produce optimal images for diagnosis. - To determine appropriate imaging techniques for the individual patient condition. - To communicate effectively with patients with communication difficulties and cognitive impairment. - The ability to gain acceptance of the procedure especially when there may be barriers to understanding such as dementia, hearing or sight impairment, cultural or behavioural problems. - The counselling and communication skills to impart scan outcomes to patients/relatives.
