An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Renal Technologist to join Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust as a Senior Renal Technologist Manager.

Our Renal Technical Services department provides specialist technical support across nine hospital and satellite dialysis units, the West London Renal and Transplant Centre, and an expanding Home Haemodialysis service. We maintain a large fleet of dialysis equipment, reverse osmosis water treatment systems and associated infrastructure, ensuring safe, reliable and high-quality treatment for patients across the Trust.

This is an excellent time to join the service as we continue to invest in new dialysis technologies, water treatment infrastructure and service developments. Working closely with the Principal Renal Technologist and the senior technical team, you will support operational leadership, deliver complex technical projects and drive continuous service improvement across multiple sites.

The successful candidate will be an experienced Renal Technologist with excellent technical knowledge, leadership skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care. You will lead defined areas of service responsibility, contribute to major equipment replacement and infrastructure projects, support quality and governance initiatives, and help shape the future development of Renal Technical Services across the Trust.

### Main duties of the job

- Support the operational management and delivery of Renal Technical Services across multiple hospital and satellite dialysis units.
- Provide specialist technical expertise for the maintenance, repair, validation and performance monitoring of dialysis equipment, reverse osmosis water treatment systems and associated renal medical devices.
- Lead defined areas of service responsibility, driving service development, quality improvement and technical governance in collaboration with the senior technical team.
- Support the planning and delivery of equipment replacement programmes, new installations, service developments and capital projects.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, MHRA guidance, ISO standards, manufacturer recommendations and Trust policies.
- Investigate and resolve technical incidents, equipment failures and water quality concerns, implementing effective corrective and preventative actions.
- Build strong working relationships with clinical teams, Clinical Engineering, Estates, manufacturers and contractors to ensure safe and efficient service delivery.
- Provide technical leadership, supervision and mentoring to junior renal technical staff, promoting professional development and high standards of practice.
- Participate in the departmental on-call rota, providing specialist technical support during emergency situations affecting dialysis equipment and water treatment systems.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Three years specialist experience as a renal technologist
- Previous managerial /supervisor experience with responsibilities for others in all aspects of the management of clinical equipment
- Experience of working under a Quality Management System.
- Registered with the Association of Renal Technologists
- Extensive knowledge of test procedures used to verify safety and performance of a wide range of medical equipment.

### Education/ Qualifications

**Essential**

- Degree, in an appropriate engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
- Registered IPEM Clinical Technologist
- In-depth practical, diploma-level postgraduate experience and specialist knowledge of a broad range of processes relating to Equipment Management, clinical governance or equivalent experience

**Desirable**

- Diploma in Renal technology

### Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

**Essential**

- Must be able to lead a team and work as part of the team.
- Sound understanding of scientific and engineering technologies used in medical equipment. E.g. electrical safety
- Must have a full UK driving licence
- Ability to diagnose complex faults
- Good oral and written communications.
- Good listening skills
- Be able to physically lift heavy equipment, carry out repetitive equipment testing and work in awkward positions several times each day.
- Dexterity, co-ordination and sensory skills for use of precision tools, where high standard of accuracy is needed to prevent harm to self or patients
- Ability to make fine alterations to equipment controls to adjust more than one reading. Simultaneously.
- Ability to perform physically accurate, fine work in confined and obscured spaces.
