The Christie Hospital is seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Senior MRI Radiographer for a 12-month period to cover maternity leave. As a senior MRI Radiographer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of our MR service. You will work alongside the MRI Lead & deputies to support a team of talented radiographers, ensuring the provision of high-quality care across 4 scanners. Your expertise will contribute directly to the development of tailored treatment plans for patients, helping to optimise their outcomes & overall experience.

You will be supported to access professional development & post graduate educational opportunities offering routes into advanced clinical practice or senior management. The Christie People & Culture Plan actively supports AHPs to engage in advanced clinical practice & research from postgraduate through to doctorate level education. You will have the opportunity to be innovative & develop your own areas of interest to the benefit of the patients and the service.

### Main duties of the job

MAIN DUTIES

- Work alongside the MR leadership team in the day-to-day running of the department, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation and compassion.
- Provide guidance to a team of radiographers and radiographic aides, promoting their professional growth and development.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support accurate and timely diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Drive the implementation of new technologies and techniques, staying at the forefront of advancements in MR radiography.
- Participate in departmental audits, research projects and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.

REQUIREMENTS

- Degree in Diagnostic Radiography
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- PgCert in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (desirable)
- Strong background in MR imaging with minimum 2 years experience.
- Proven leadership abilities with the capacity to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
- Excellent communication skills, fostering effective collaboration across departments.
- Strong problem-solving skills, capable of making critical decisions in a fast paced environment.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communication requirements     To assist in ensuring there is effective communication between the various teams who have input into the Scanning service such as Diagnostic Radiology Staff, students, Medical Physics Staff, Clinicians, Nursing staff and others.     To ensure that patients understand complex information related to their examination and to encourage patients to cooperate fully in the examination process. This may involve patients with learning difficulties or other disabilities.     To participate in departmental audit to enable implementation of evidence based working practice.  To help develop and implement new protocols and working practice as a result of audit.     Accurate input of patient data into any Trust computer system.

Teaching / Training requirements     Take an active role in the training of qualified radiographers, radiography students  and students from other disciplines including visiting engineers and clinical trainee staff     Maintain expertise in intravenous cannulation techniques.     To participate in the departmental continuing professional development programme, including participating in appraisal and personal development planning.     To participate in the Trust’s mandatory training.     To adhere to the College of Radiographer’s Professional Code of Conduct.     To use and instruct others on the required functions of the computerised Radiology Patient Administration System and Radiology Information System i.e. PACS and RIS.

Analytical skills     Assess patient’s clinical condition with relation to the level of risk of giving intravenous contrast medium examination protocols.     Adapt radiological techniques and protocols in accordance with the condition of the patient.

Role Specific     Recognise abnormal images and discuss with the radiologist the necessity for further imaging.  Use professional judgement to act autonomously to adjust scanning parameters to ensure high quality imaging to ensure a smooth patient pathway.     To act as a referrer for orbital x-rays prior to MR imaging, which involves independently assessing the risks and benefits to the patient.     To undertake all MRI examinations as directed to an acceptable standard and seek guidance as appropriate.  Aim to achieve and promote “quality” in all aspects of the radiology service.     To ensure safety of self, staff and patients/visitors with regard to the use of MRI scanning equipment and adhering to local Operational guidelines, MHRA and local safety screening guidelines.

General duties

Supervision of junior radiographic staff, students and radiographic aides as required. Ordering of equipment and consumable items. Provision of specialist care of patients to ensure their comfort and safety in the department. Checking patient details prior to examination and ensuring all relevant details are on the request card. Ensuring pregnancy is excluded in female patients of childbearing years. Maintenance of the standards of imaging set by the department Ensuring that any faults in equipment, fixtures, fittings or fabric of any of the departments are recorded and notified to the appropriate persons, and complying with, and enforcing current Health and Safety and Moving and Handling regulations.  Maintaining practices in keeping with departmental and Trust Board policies, e.g. fire regulations, patient confidentiality etc. To work with the Radiologists, Clinical Specialist Radiographers and other senior staff in the department to review working practices and identify new ways of working and find solutions to problems. Clinical supervision of radiography students There is a contractual requirement to participate in extended day and weekend working, and on-call.

Any other duties, which after discussion might be reasonable requested to maintain the smooth running of the department.
