We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our DEXA  team at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join our growing DEXA service at RJAH.  RJAH is a lead provider for DEXA for a large catchment area.

The Bone Densitometry Unit forms part of the Bone Health Service based at the Trust.  The Unit specialises in the diagnosis and management of metabolic bone disorders and has particular interests in osteoporosis.  We are looking for an experienced radiographer who has an interest in Metabolic Medicine or/and has experience in working in a DXA scanning service and will will be able to integrate into our motivated and hardworking team.  .

The successful applicants will undertake bone densitometry measurements as required by the named practitioners within the Trust, in line with departmental protocols.

- To maintain a high standard of practice and professional development contributing to the effective provision of the bone densitometry service.
- Supervision of the Operator and HCA DXA team in the absence of the DEXA Team Lead Radiographer.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- To help organise, plan, and prioritise workload according to clinical need.
- To supervise the team and oversee weekend rota to ensure smooth running of the DXA service.
- To ensure that adequate radiation protection is given to self, patients, and other in line with the local rules and Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 and the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017.
- Flexible working to meet clinical need and waiting time targets.
- Adjust work pattern when Outpatient demand exceeds expectations.
- Participate in the training including student Radiographers in placement in the department and supervision of team members in the use of equipment.
- Involved in and develop individual staff development and training through annual appraisals to specific group.
- Maintain accurate equipment records and report any faults to the duty lead.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly equipment tests for Quality assurance, monitoring the results on a Database for use by the Regional Radiation Protection Service.
- Undertake regular CPD training and maintaining a portfolio to ensure high level of knowledge and expertise is achieved, while ensuring radiographers and technicians are maintaining their CPD portfolios.
- Be familiar with the departmental computer systems.
- To assist and support the Operational Manager and DEXA Team Lead.
- Modify and implement modifications to departmental protocols as necessary to ensure that radiation dose is kept to a minimum.
- To monitor stock levels within the department and order on ORACLE.
- Participate in research projects and offer advice to team on any issues relating to techniques and working practices.
- Suggest/implement improvement to services based on research and evidence.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Radiography Experience

**Desirable**

- Experience of DXA Radiography (however full training will be given)

### Qualifications/Training

**Essential**

- BSc in Diagnostic Radiography or DCR equivalent
- Evidence of continuous personal and professional development
- HCPC registered

**Desirable**

- Certificate in Bone Densitometry
- Radiation Protection certification
- Supervisor experience
