### Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our ward based team.

Working closely with our clinical pharmacists and other healthcare professionals the successful candidate will help provide a quality medicines management service to wards across the Trust, supporting medicines optimisation.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

### Main duties of the job

Main duties will include:

* Medicines reconciliation * Assessing the suitability of patients’ own drugs for use, * Ordering named patient medication * Counselling patients about their medicines * Co-ordinating supply of discharge medicines * Supporting audit and quality improvement initiatives.

The post holder will be required to help support the training and staff development of a range of staff including pre-registration trainees pharmacy technicians, pharmacy technicians and pharmacists. There will be regular dispensary slots which will include final accuracy checking.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

There is a requirement to work across the organisation, with a base at Highbury Hospital. Specialities covered will include AMH, OPCU, CAMHS.

You should have previously worked in a hospital pharmacy with  experience in a mental health setting desirable but not essential.

Applications from candidates expected to register with the GPhC in the next few months will be considered.

A full UK driving license and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Please note that this post does not meet the pay level required for a Skilled worker visa.

Successful applicants with no prior NHS experience would normally be placed at the bottom of the band in line with Agenda for Change. This salary is below the minimum salary required for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa. In these circumstances the Trust would not, therefore, be able to sponsor for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa.

### Training

**Essential**

- To undertake training in relation to departmental procedures.
- Must successfully complete in-house training and have experience of prescription interpretation, labelling and dispensing within defined timeframes.

- Trained to undertake final accuracy checking or working towards accreditation.
- Trained in medicines management / medicines optimisation schemes such as medicines reconciliation

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Up to date evidence of continued professional development.

**Desirable**

- Medicines used in mental health.
- Mental Health pharmacy priorities to meet the need of this specific patient population.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Previous varied NHS hospital experience at AFC band 4 or above
- Evidence of ongoing training and personal development.
- Evidence of leading and/or responsible for delivering a service/function/project or development
- Effective stock control

**Desirable**

- Previous experience using pharmacy computer systems (CMM)
- Named patient ordering
- Medicines reconciliation
- Checking technician or working towards accreditation
- Experience of patient counselling

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- GPhC approved Level 3 qualification in Pharmaceutical Science.
- Registration Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
