Are you a qualified Pharmacy dispenser looking for a new challenge?

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Pharmacy Assistant on a full-time basis to work within the busy Pharmacy Department. We have a position available at the Alexandra Hospital supporting the dispensary team supplying medications for TTOs, inpatient supplies and outpatients.

Pharmacy Assistants are vital members of the Pharmacy team. You will be a strong and confident team player, demonstrate professionalism at all times and act as a role model for other assistants, taking responsibility to ensure you prepare medication in accordance with our policies and procedures.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team working closely with Pharmacists, Technicians and other Assistants.

### Main duties of the job

Duties of the role include, but are not limited to:

- Interpret and dispense prescriptions on a patient specific basis for in-patients outpatients and discharge under the supervision of a team pharmacist/accuracy checking technician.
- Ensuring all work is carried out to a high degree of accuracy, safely and efficiently following current standard operating procedures of the department on a daily basis
- To input prescription data into the pharmacy computer system ensuring high levels of accuracy.
- To supply controlled drugs on request from designated clinical areas and for discharge / outpatient prescriptions, in accordance with departmental procedures and in compliance with related legislation regarding record keeping, storage and transportation of controlled drugs.
- To maintain and replenish identified stock or emergency supplies on a daily basis. To record and monitor medicines room and refrigerator temperatures to ensure storage conditions are within the defined parameters as delegated.
- To replace or rotate short dated medicines where appropriate to minimise wastage
- To relay complete and accurate information, recognising self-limitations and referring to appropriate person
- To take appropriate daily action to ensure medication requiring delivery is available to individual patients
- To plan own work, liaising with manager to ensure appropriate management of ward/clinical area work.

### Job responsibilities

Interpret and dispense inpatient, outpatient and discharge prescriptions in accordance with department procedures This will include supply for inpatients, outpatients and TTOS and include oral cytotoxic prescriptions and Controlled Drugs (CD) prescriptions and requisitions.

Complete all relevant paperwork for dispensing including IVIG paperwork and unlicensed records as needed.

Ensure any medication required for the discharge process is available at the point of entry to the dispensing process.

Ensure prescribed items are put on order when insufficient supply is made and once received from the supplier ensure owings are completed in a timely manner with support from the Lead and Senior Pharmacy Technicians for Dispensary.

To help the co-ordination and assembly of missed doses and returning these to the ward for checks and distribution to the appropriate area to prevent any delays in medications being available.

Ensure that the tracker is checked routinely to ensure patient flow is maintained and any delays are escalated as needed

Assist in the receipt and issue of controlled drugs and stationery including FP10S in accordance with legal and departmental procedures.

Undertake reception duties to include greeting patients/staff at hatch

Taking in of prescriptions and requisitions and booking work onto the pharmacy tracker system assessing the urgency of requests and acting accordingly and advising on wait times.

Assess patient eligibility to pay prescription fees and collect prescription charge using card machine or identify the reason for free prescriptions

Undertake daily replenishment of the emergency drug cupboard issuing and replacing stock that has been removed and ensuring that all necessary paperwork has been completed.

File all dispensary generated paperwork including orders and prescriptions in line with the legal requirements for the retention of pharmaceutical records.

Answering of telephone queries relevant to role.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Recent proven experience of working in a pharmacy department
- Experience of working in a team
- Proven experience of accurately dispensing medication

**Desirable**

- Recent proven experience of working in a hospital pharmacy department.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Has level 2 in pharmacy services (previously NVQ Level 2) or has completed the national Dispensing Assistants course.

**Desirable**

- GCSE (or equivalent) grade C/4 or above in Maths and English

### Personal Qualities

**Essential**

- Able to work effectively in a team whilst working as a role model for colleagues.
- Able to work flexibly when needed depending on the service requirements
- Able to meet deadlines, prioritise tasks and manage time effectively within a busy working environment whilst producing work to the required standard.
