Wye Valley NHS Trust is seeking an experienced and motivated Band 8a pharmacist to lead and deliver high‑quality antimicrobial stewardship and clinical pharmacy services across surgical specialties. The post holder will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to optimise antimicrobial use, support infection management, contribute to clinical governance, audit and service improvement, and provide expert pharmaceutical advice across designated service areas.

This is a 12 month fixed‑term opportunity for a clinically skilled pharmacist with a strong interest in antimicrobial stewardship and surgical services to make a significant impact on patient care.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

- Lead and support the pharmacy Service provided to the AMS & Surgical Specialties

- Work closely with the consultant workforce, the lead and specialist nurses, and other staff members associated with the pharmacy service to the AMS & Surgical Specialties

- Be responsible for coordinating pharmacy clinical services to the Directorate, oversee and investigate medicines related safety incidents in the Directorate, monitor financial and clinical governance in the Directorate.

- Lead on evidence-based prescribing advice to ensure effective, appropriate, sustainable, cost-effective and safe use of medicines and promote patient-centred care for all patients.

- To lead on guidelines for the prescribing, administration and storage of surgical related medicines to facilitate good practice within the AMS & Surgical Specialties , within the Acute Trust and across the primary and secondary care interface.

- To provide training and education to all levels of Healthcare professionals in acute and primary care whilst linking into national networks to learn about developments to share across the network.

- To support 7-day clinical services to the Trust on a rotational weekend, public holiday and On Call (EDC) rota basis.

## Person Specification

### Skills

**Essential**

- Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of clinical pharmacy practice relating to AMS and/or Surgical Specialties
- Able to process complex clinical information in an accurate and timely manner
- Communicate effectively to all levels of staff using a variety of methods (written, verbal, presentation) with a wide range of people across the organisation.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of best practice and legal requirements relating to medicines storage, prescribing and administration

### Experience

**Essential**

- Significant relevant, post registration experience as a hospital clinical pharmacist
- Experience of investigating complaints and medication incidents within the department and the Trust
- Experience in motivating teams

**Desirable**

- Experience of leading on personnel selection, managing teams and individuals

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- MPharm & registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacist
- Post graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience to a similar level
- Evidence of CPD and study beyond registration in line with requirements for revalidation and demonstrating commitment to lifelong learning.
- Independent Prescribing Qualification or prepared to be working towards this within 12 months of starting the role

**Desirable**

- Post Graduate qualifications relating to AMS and/or Surgical Specialties or be willing to work towards this
