### Job summary

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has an opportunity for a permanent full-time experienced orthoptist at Band 6. You will be responsible for a specialist orthoptic workload centred around our paediatric and adult Ophthalmology clinics. This post is open to orthoptists with post graduate clinical experience only. Your job plan will include early evening clinics and one Saturday a month You will undertake comprehensive orthoptic assessment of children and adults with a wide range of abilities / disorders e.g. infantile cataract, nystagmus, learning disabilities, autism and stroke in standalone Orthoptic clinics and in joint clinics with optometrists and ophthalmologists. You will provide clinical teaching for undergraduate orthoptic placements, trainee ophthalmologists, pre reg optometrists and student nurses. You will be prepared to learn and undertake perimetry including Octopus Goldmann Visual Fields.

### Main duties of the job

You will provide routine and specialist orthoptic and visual field services as an autonomous practitioner within the hospital department and any other sites served by the department. This encompasses investigation and management including direct implementation of treatment over a range of conditions in many patient types/ages. You will assist with clinical teaching and supervision of orthoptic undergraduate students. You will assist with clinical teaching of other multidisciplinary profession staff. We are a team of 16 orthoptists who work closely with paediatric ophthalmologists/strabismologists and optometrists. We have some very experienced staff to support you. We will provide support, mentoring and training, including case and journal discussions. There will opportunities to undertake audit and other projects. The department is accredited for orthoptic pre registration placements.
