You will be based at Aintree University Hospital  and will be responsible for driving the OT service within Medicine  as well as supporting the B7 Physiotherapists to lead the team.   Specialties include Cardiology,  Gastroenterology, Diabetes and Respiratory as well as general medical wards. You should have a strong clinical background, knowledge and skills acquired across a variety of settings. Experience in medical settings is essential. The role is patient and non-patient facing and you should have excellent organisational, planning and time management skills. You will be part of a high functioning MDT, which includes a supportive team of Band 7 staff, providing specialist clinical contribution to the patient journey with high level assessment and treatment planning for complex medical patients. You must have strong leadership, people management and supervision skills. You will be required to demonstrate a commitment to service development, audit and research. We are committed to staff development; you will have access to peer support and supervision from the Therapy Management Team and other Band 7 peers across the Trust.   You will be supported to attend courses and training including leadership development. ### Main duties of the job You will have a key role in high level clinical assessment, treatment planning, reasoning, risk identification and problem solving to enable patients to optimise functional independence, avoid admission or reduce length of stay and to support patient discharge at the earliest safe opportunity and to minimise the risk of re-admission. To manage, train, appraise and supervise Band 6 Occupational Therapist, Band 5 Occupational Therapists, Students, Therapy Assistants, Work Experience and Healthcare Cadets under the guidance of Therapy Managers and Clinical Specialists The role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work as an effective member of the wider team as well as with other external agencies. Staff are required to work flexibly and shift patterns over an extended working day. Flexible working patterns may be considered. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities Please refer to detailed Job Description attached Clinical: To undertake assessment of patients including those with diverse and complex presentations/multiple pathologies using advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to clinically diagnose. Implement evidence based treatment plans with regards to physical, cognitive, perceptual, psychological and social functioning. Deliver and evaluate treatment programmes according to health care needs using a comprehensive range of treatment options. To advise, assist and educate Band 6, Band 5 and Student Occupational Therapists on the management of clinically complex patients. To take part in board rounds and weekly multidisciplinary team meetings. To carry out home assessments within the patients usual place of residence. Liaising with family, carers, multidisciplinary team to plan community support including equipment needed for discharge, packages of care and community therapy follow-up To liaise with statutory and voluntary agencies external to the Trust, regarding social care and housing Management/leadership: To be responsible for the supervision of Band 6, Band 5, Students and Therapy Assistants within own team. To provide the Clinical Specialist/Managers with relevant information for the planning and development of the unit. To ensure where necessary the provision of staff cover within own clinical team in times of annual leave/sickness etc. To assist the Managers in achieving the departmental objectives and promoting an open style of management. To participate in the professional development programme of the therapy Department. Co-ordinate the effective day to day running of own team and ensure effective dissemination of information. To participate in the recruitment and selection of therapy staff under the guidance of Therapy Manager. To comply with the Health & Safety Policies of the Trust including attendance at Mandatory Training as specified by the Trust. To comply with and contribute to the development of departmental procedures and guidelines. To ensure that all accidents, incidents and hazards are dealt with effectively and reported accordingly to Trust requirements. To comply with the Royal College of Occupational Therapy standards and rules of professional conduct. To be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records in line with Trust and Departmental Standards of Practice. To develop and undertake Clinical Audit.
