They will also be responsible for the supervision of junior and/or therapy support staff. This post for Band 6 Occupational Therapist Inpatient rehabilitation has opportunities to work across Inpatient services on the Chase Farm hospital  & St Michael’s sites with potential to rotate into community services in future. The Band 6 Occupational Therapist will participate in a seven day therapy service ### Main duties of the job - To assess the occupational needs of a defined patient group and establish and evaluate appropriate treatment programmes. - To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment for patients with multiple needs in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention. - To participate in multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment provision. - To select and apply occupational therapy assessments for a designated caseload, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits, enabling the patient in areas of self-maintenance, productivity and leisure. - To be able to communicate effectively with users and carers, team members, OT colleagues and other agencies, including people who may have sensory disabilities e.g. visual and sensory impairments, speech and comprehension difficulties. - To plan and implement individual and /or group interventions, in collaboration with the patient, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals. - To provide support and education to patients and carers regarding all aspects of occupational therapy e.g. equipment fitting, rehab programmes. - To work with patients to identify OT goals as part of the overall care plan, using standardised and local OT assessment tools. - To contribute to taking a lead role in the overview of the discharge planning of every patient, recommending services and appropriate follow up at home. Please see the full Job Description for further details ## Person Specification ### Other Factors **Essential** - Fluent in written and spoken English - Car driver with valid UK driving license. - Ability to participate in a 7-day Occupational Therapy service - Be willing to work across trust sites & participate in rotational scheme **Desirable** - Car available for work purposes ### Work Experience **Essential** - Post Registration experience relevant to clinical area - physical health setting and discharge planning. - Experience in supervising/teaching staff/student/volunteers - Experience of working in the NHS - Application of the OT process from admission to discharge - Experience of discharge planning - Experience of equipment prescription and environmental assessments within peoples’ homes **Desirable** - Work experience within inpatient service / rehabilitation - Lone working experience for home and access visits - Experience of working with patient presenting with a Mental Health condition ### Skills & Aptitudes **Essential** - Effective written and verbal communication skills - Ability to relate clinical knowledge to practice - Ability to work as part of a team - Good organisational skills - Ability to problem solve and use clinical reasoning effectively. - Ability to manage own workload, prioritise and delegate. - Negotiation skills & able to manage conflict - Computer skills – outlook/ word/ excel/use of EPR systems **Desirable** - Group facilitation skills - Good presentation skills. - Appraisal and supervision skills ### Education & Qualifications **Essential** - Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy - Current H.C.P.C.
