### Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a Nurse Endoscopist within the Gastroenterology department to aid the delivery of the ever-developing Endoscopy Service. The post holder will be a JAG accredited independent practitioner in diagnostic upper and/or lower gastrointestinal (GI); supported by the team of Consultant Endoscopists’ and Nonmedical Endoscopists’. The Nurse Endoscopist will be expected to work as an autonomous clinical expert within their field of competence in GI Endoscopy and work effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team. Through the delivery of their own endoscopy sessions, the post holder will help in supporting the Trust in achieving national set targets, such as the 2 week cancer pathway and 18 week referral to treatment pathway

- To provide individual episodes of care to a client group based on assessment of  physical, social, psychological, emotional and spiritual needs.  2. To demonstrate a high level of clinical decision-making and an ability to monitor and  improve standards of care. To work within his/her own scope of professional practice.  3. To work closely with the multi-professional team to develop the nurse endoscopist  service and provide expert nursing practice without direct medical supervision but  within agreed Trust protocols.  4. To work unsupervised in the provision of clinical care to patients   5. To provide training and education to the multi-professional team, patients and their  relatives.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1:1  Work as an autonomous practitioner undertaking diagnostic & therapeutic  investigations for patients requiring GI endoscopy procedures including Bowel  Cancer Screening lists  1:2 To ensure these lists run efficiently and effectively  1:3 To act as an excellent role model and develop own clinical expertise keeping  abreast of changing developments in endoscopy practice.  1:4 To provide quality patient standards in accordance with those identified in the GRS  and JAG.   1:5 To ensure that families and carers are involved in the planning and provision of care  where this is appropriate.  1:6 To develop mechanisms to monitor user’s perceptions of the service.  1:7 To participate in the formulation and development of clinical governance action  plans.   1:8 To actively participate in the Endoscopy Users Group.  1:9 To ensure that nurse lead clinics are organised and run effectively.   1:10 To provide appropriate guidance regarding wellness, lifestyle, disease risks and  potential changes in health status, including health awareness, screening and  prevention.  1:11 To recognise and refer to appropriate primary care services for clients with  acute/chronic conditions.

- Evidence of change management in clinical practice
- Clear understanding of Nursing and policy issues

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience at senior nurse level.
- Significant Gastroenterology/Hepatology experience
- Recent experience of role development
- Experience of establishing positive working relationships with other disciplines.
- Experience of teaching at a clinical level

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- RN 1st level
- Health related Degree
- Masters Level Qualification or equivalent
- Endoscopy training certification

**Desirable**

- Management/Leadership qualification
