### Job overview

This is a substantive post to support the department in increasing activity and achieving access targets and to consolidate the departmental transition service for complex paediatric urology patients into the adult urology service.  The successful candidate will be working within a team of six Paediatric Urologists.

Candidates that are non-GMC registered at the point of application will be considered for this position, under the Trusts International Fellowship Scheme (please note, there is a £500 admin charge for this scheme). ### Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. It is the largest children’s hospital in the UK with 371 beds. The hospital provides children’s emergency, secondary and regional tertiary services.

The Department of Paediatric Surgery and Urology is the specialist children’s surgery centre in North West England including Urology, Neonatal, Oncological, Thoracic, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and specialist day-case surgery, and the surgery of intestinal failure and short bowel; supra-regional service supporting exstrophy, hyperinsulinaemia of the New-born, Metabolic disorders.

The paediatric urology department is one of the 2 nationally recognised service for bladder exstrophy. We are a team of 7 consultants, 1 associate specialist and 4 trainees and 6 specialist urology nurses. We run a vibrant urology laparoscopic training programmme. Current research programmes include  - bladder exstrophy, bladder genetics, varicoclele, overactive bladder.

The main purpose of this role will be supporting clinical activity on the wards, theatre and out patient clinics.

## Person Specification

- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Successful completion of MRCS or equivalent
- Evidence of achievement of Core and Foundation competences from a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent by time of appointment in line with GMC standards/ Good Medical Practice including: Good clinical care Maintaining good medical practice Good relationships and communication with patients Good working relationships with colleagues Good teaching and training Professional behaviour and probity Delivery of good acute clinical care
- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Minimum 5 years of paediatric surgical/urological training
- Is up to date and fit to practise safely
- All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues.
- Ability to provide complete details of employment history
- Evidence that career progression is consistent with personal circumstances
- Evidence that present achievement and performance is commensurate with totality of period of training
- Paediatric surgical trainees must have substantial training in Paediatric Urology
- Adult trainees must have accumulated substantial and demonstrable paediatric practice within adult posts (with evidence).
