Applications are sought from enthusiastic candidates to join a high-quality hand & wrist service at MFT.

This post is suitable for a senior orthopaedic surgeon with special interest in hand & wrist surgery, to join the hand surgery team at MFT (predominantly MRI/TGH). This post will offer hand subspecialty training with a view to developing independent, remote-supervised practice such as hand & wrist trauma operating lists and clinics and local anaesthetic elective lists. This may include operating sessions at other MFT sites. This post offers an opportunity to progress through payscale commensurate with experience. Support will be offered for specialist register portfolio pathway as required.

The post holder will help to deliver a comprehensive hand & wrist service, with focus on both complex elective and trauma surgery in ambulatory and polytrauma patients. There will also be opportunity for engagement with research.

This full-time position is currently available for a period of 12 months. It is based mainly at the Manchester Royal Infirmary and Trafford General Hospital sites (T&O), with opportunity for further cross-site engagement to support the MFT-wide ortho-plastic single hand service.

General Orthopaedic Trauma oncall (full shift, MRI).

Orthopaedic Weekly Hand MDT Meeting,

Orthopaedic Trauma Meetings and Ward Rounds.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This full-time position with general orthopaedic on call commitments (full shift pattern) is currently available for an initial period of 12 months, extension subject to satisfactory progress, review and appraisal.

It is based mainly at the Manchester Royal Infirmary and Trafford General Hospital sites (T&O), with opportunity for cross-site engagement to support the MFT-wide ortho-plastic single hand service. The post-holder will work as part of a structured clinical programme. Clinical experience of hand & wrist surgery, with ample opportunities for research and personal development will be available. Study leave will be supported at the discretion of supervising Consultants in conjunction with the Directorate management team.

The postholder will work as a part of the Hand Team at MRI & TGH sites, with aspects of care delivered at other MFT sites. They will be clinically supervised by Mr Mayank Vashishtha and Mrs Sally Kerr, with the opportunity to undertake independent clinics and operating lists if the appropriate competencies are met. Supporting activities will include mandatory training, clinical governance, audit, teaching, research meetings, MDTs and admin/management. These will be programmed in agreement with the Clinical Director. This will include participating in and coordinating the weekly Hand Radiology MDT.

DCC to consist of the following:

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Minimum 3 Years Experience at registrar/middle grade level with minimum six months in hand & wrist surgery
- Keen interest in a career in Hand and Wrist Surgery

**Desirable**

- Previous fellowship in Hand and Wrist Surgery

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Full GMC registration with license to practice
- MRCS

**Desirable**

- Hand Diploma British or European (completed or working towards completion)
- FRCS (Tr & Orth) or part of
- Peri-CESR or CCT
- ATLS Provider
- Experience of working in the NHS
