### Job overview

The Senior Infection Prevention and Control Nurse will provide expert specialist advice, leadership and assurance across a defined Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) programme within Hywel Dda University Health Board. The post holder will support the prevention, surveillance and management of healthcare-associated infections, communicable diseases, outbreaks and incidents across acute, community and primary care settings. They will lead the interpretation of surveillance and audit information, support quality improvement initiatives and work collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical teams to ensure compliance with national standards, Welsh Government guidance and Health Board priorities. The role includes operational leadership of members of the IPC team and contributing to organisational governance, risk management and assurance processes.

### Main duties of the job

Provide expert infection prevention and control advice to clinical and non-clinical services across the Health Board.

- Lead and support the investigation and management of outbreaks, incidents and healthcare-associated infections.
- Undertake complex IPC risk assessments and provide advice to mitigate identified risks.
- Monitor, analyse and interpret surveillance, audit and incident data to identify trends, risks and areas for improvement.
- Lead the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of infection prevention and control programmes and improvement initiatives.
- Develop, review and implement IPC policies, procedures, guidelines and audit programmes in line with national standards and best practice.
- Provide professional and operational leadership, supervision and support to members of the IPC team.
- Deliver and support education, training and competency programmes to promote high standards of infection prevention and control practice.
- Contribute to governance, assurance and risk management processes, including preparation of reports for senior management and committees.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, external agencies and partner organisations to improve patient safety and reduce infection risks.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Provide specialist IPC advice relating to the built environment, including water safety, ventilation, refurbishment and new-build projects.
- Deputise for the Head of Infection Prevention and Control as required.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Significant post-registration experience
- Experience working at Band 6 within IPC or related field
- Experience of outbreak and incident management
- Experience of audit, surveillance and data interpretation
- Experience of influencing practice across multidisciplinary teams

- Experience contributing to organisational or corporate programmes
- Experience of quality improvement methodologies
- Experience in research or project work

### Language Skills

### Qualifications and Knowledge

- Registered Nurse - 1st Level Degree or equivalent
- Level 7 Masters qualification in Infection Prevention and Control
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
- Willing to attend Infection Prevention & Control study days / conferences / national events

**Desirable**

- Master’s degree or willing to work towards
- Teaching/assessing qualification
- Leadership/management qualification
