An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint an inspirational and enthusiastic Senior Immunisation Nurse on a 30 hour basis.  This senior role requires an individual to be an experienced professional in delivering children’s vaccination programmes. We are looking for someone who  would like to develop their management and leadership skills.

This leadership role requires a motivated professional with excellent communication skills capable of providing clinical expertise and leadership to team members.

The role will require the appropriate knowledge and skills in school aged immunisation to support the team, provide training and assist in the planning and delivery of the vaccine programmes and BCG service.

You will support service change and development to ensure a robust service. You will be responsible for providing supervision, teaching and mentoring of staff, assessing risk and ensuring the safety of young people and employees.

The post holder will work closely with the Head of Service to analyse and review service delivery and ensure it remains effective and responsive whilst adhering to all statutory guidance.

We seek applicants who can work flexibly to meet the needs of the Service, including the requirement to be able to work the occasional evening and weekend.

### Main duties of the job

The purpose of this post is to support the Head of School Aged Immunisations in managing to deliver the Commissioned BCG Programme and School Aged Immunisation Programmes  seamlessly to children and young people in the 0-19 age range, and their families.

This will include assisting and supporting in all day-to-day management of a group of staff, including clinical professionals and support staff, partnership working and liaising with other organisations.

This will also include personnel  and information management, as well as day to day co-ordination of the service to ensure continuity and the most effective use of resources to meet the needs of the countywide service.

- The post holder will work in collaboration with the Head of School Aged Immunisations to ensure alignment of professional priorities with the organisational priorities and core business
- Deliver operational management for the Immunisation Team assuming continuous responsibility for appropriate allocation of workload and effectively manage the team through supervision processes
- Provide strong professional leadership
- Ensure effective performance management of the Team
- To act as an exemplary role model providing the highest standards of evidence based clinical practice, promoting and monitoring safe and effective practice

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Lead and model clinical practice whilst supporting and encouraging colleagues to reach their potential.
- To provide support for the delivery of other school based immunisation programmes.
- To actively contribute to the development and co-ordination of health promotion programmes to school aged children to improve the uptake of the school based immunisation programme.
- To assist in the planning, co-ordination and delivery of community BCG clinics.
- Liaise and work collaboratively with the Gloucestershire NHS Foundation Trust respiratory team in relation to complex BCG queries.
- Maintain contemporaneous, factual records with the child the focus of all assessments and actions in accordance with Public Health Nursing Service guidelines and organisations clinical record keeping policy.
- Be proactive in identification of risk factors and signs and symptoms of child abuse and act according to organisation and Gloucestershire Safeguarding Children’s Board protocols at all times.
- Liaise collaboratively with Gloucestershire’s schools, the Child in Care Team and Social Care to ensure children who are vulnerable and or with complex health needs receive the their vaccinations.
- The development of training packages and the delivery to school aged children and the PHN Teams, e.g. HPV training programmes or cascade training.
- Provide signposting to other services and agencies, referring onwards in a timely manner and liaising appropriately seeking first any necessary consent.
- Take and act upon referrals from other agencies and services as appropriate and allocation work appropriately to the Immunisation Team.
- To ensure that high standards of infection control are integral to all aspects of nursing practice.

## Person Specification

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Professional, clinical knowledge required through training to degree or equivalent, Active Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) on Part 1 or 2 of Register
- ENB 998 Teaching & Assessing/FLAP in absence of degree
- Evidence of Continued Professional Development

**Desirable**

- Post graduate qualification e.g. Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCHPHN) Health Visiting or School Nursing

### Length and / or Nature of Experience

**Essential**

- Post registration experience of working with children or young people or families or community working
- Evidence of safeguarding children experience - or willingness to undertake appropriate training for role

### Professiona/Managerial/Specialist Knowledge

**Essential**

- Active Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) on Part 1 or 2 of Register
- Knowledge of NMC Professional Codes, Standards and PREP
- Understanding of Government policy in current child health programmes and impact on local needs
