Would you like to develop your skills in a busy Haematology and Oncology Department?

We are looking for an enthusiastic experienced Band 3 Senior Health-Care Support Worker (SHCSW) to join our innovative and dynamic team. We have x1 post for 37.5 hours per week and this is to work long days (07.00am - 19.30pm) and occasional weekends.

You will be supporting patients attending the Rapid Access and Same Day Emergency Care unit at the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC).

Our supportive team-working culture will empower you to build professional relationships with your patients and team.

Working in BHOC is demanding and can be challenging and we are fortunate to have access to a comprehensive staff wellbeing support.

We’re a very friendly team that is constantly celebrating each other’s success and where everyone supports one another.

We encourage you to develop and broaden your knowledge, skills and experience by offering:

- Additional training courses
- Visiting other departments within Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre
- Shadowing of other staff

### Main duties of the job

You will be working as a part of an award-winning hospital and department alongside Doctors, Nurses, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Allied Health Professionals and other professions.

A Senior Healthcare Support Worker will be expected to undertake a range of duties under the direction of Registered Nurses and will be required to report back on those delegated duties to a Registered Nurse. These duties with appropriate training include taking patient observations, venepuncture, venesections, ECGs, stocking up, personal care, supporting with mealtimes plus many more exciting tasks.

**Essential**

- Effective and appropriate communication skills both written and verbal
- Able to complete appropriate documentation accurately
- Demonstrate an awareness of healthcare work and policies and procedures
- Committed to providing high quality patient care
- Ability to work with minimum supervision to a high standard
- IT skills, basic word, Email, keyboard skills
- Ability and willingness to undertake appropriate training within given time frames
- Flexible and adaptable to change, able to work a range of shifts and moving across wards/unit dependant on clinical need
- Able to demonstrate calm, caring patient manner / attitude
- Enthusiasm and commitment to working within the healthcare setting

- Experience of providing care in a healthcare or social setting

### Qualifications and Training

**Essential**

- One of the following: Level 3 (SCQF - 6): City and Guilds 3, NVQ 3, BTEC National Diploma, or experience equivalent to the above qualifications
- Level 2 Functional skills in English and Math’s, or equivalent
- Completion of Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support (that maps to the Apprenticeship Standard for Senior Health Care Support Worker) or equivalent experience
