We are seeking experienced Health Care Support Workers to join the team on Castle Ward, Peter Hodgkinson Centre

This is an exciting time to join LPFT as we continue our journey of service improvement.

Our staff supports people in one of the most critical stages of their mental illness. Castle Ward is a 19-bedded acute ward for female patients

To be successful in this role, you need to be self-motivated, enthusiastic and empathetic. You will need excellent communication skills, be resourceful and keen to contribute actively in patient care, as a key role in the team.

### Main duties of the job

To work within the policies, protocols and clinical procedures of Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Trust and to promote competent working practice within an integrated multi-disciplinary team.

To liaise with the nurses, and carry out assigned duties as a member of the multi- disciplinary mental health team.

To be prepared to work on own initiative as necessary and report to the Nurses.

Promote equality for all patients and understand their health needs.

Demonstrate an awareness of service user and carer perspectives on the provision of treatment and continuing care.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Acknowledge personal limitations in respect of competencies required to undertake the role, taking on responsibility to deliver and provide personal care activities in liaison with the supervising nursing and nursing team.

Implement care according to the service user’s individual care plan.

In liaison with the supervising nurse monitor the provision of service user care such as bathing, toileting etc. (activities of daily living) within the inpatient services reporting on activity and any unusual behaviour or feelings the service user may be experiencing.

Takes part in all recreational, leisure and any other therapeutic, physical or social activities in the provision of health and social care to service users and where necessary using supportive equipment such as wheelchairs, hoists etc. Completing reducing restrictive practice is a requirement for the role.

### Skills

**Essential**

- A patient and empathic approach.
- Effective communication with service user, other members of the team and outside agencies.
- Clear accurate clinical note keeping
- Skills related to Physical healthcare interventions such as urine analysis, phlebotomy, TPR and BP etc, recording findings and informing supervising nurse of results
- IT skills
- De-escalation Skills.
- Planning and organisation skills.

**Desirable**

- Immediate life support
- Venepuncture

### Experience

**Essential**

- Previous relevant experience working with people with mental health problems at a HCSW grade or equivalent within a health and social care setting.

**Desirable**

- Voluntary or working capacity with mental health service or equivalent

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Cavendish Care Certificate or willingness to work towards resourced by LPFT
- NVQ Level 2 in Care or equivalent
- NVQ level 3 in Promoting Independence or equivalent or working towards achievement.

**Desirable**

- Certificate in Community Mental Health
- ECDL
