We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Healthcare Support Worker to join our dynamic team at St Luke’s Treatment Centre, working within our multi-specialty Outpatients Department. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a fast-paced and varied environment, caring for a wide range of complex patients and supporting a broad selection of clinics.

St Luke’s Outpatients hosts clinics across multiple specialties, including Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Rheumatology, Diabetology, Gastroenterology, Dermatology (Skin Analytics), and ENT. You will provide care for both adult and paediatric patients, working closely with nursing, medical, and multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality care.

The role involves supporting patients and carers throughout their outpatient journey, maintaining accurate documentation, and using IT systems effectively. You will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, a positive and professional attitude, and the ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing priorities. Previous healthcare experience in a clinical setting is essential.

You may also be required to work across other designated Trust locations, including our community hospitals. Flexibility is key to this role, and excess travel reimbursement will not apply to a permanent or temporary change of base.

### Main duties of the job

The role of a Senior Health Care Support Worker within a multi- specialty department requires different skill sets to be able to support the various clinics. Skills required for this role include:

Supporting clinicians within their clinics.

Performing observations, height, weight, BMI and ECG's.

Undertaking HCSW led Skin Analytics clinics.

Phlebotomy

Undertaking the decontamination process of Nasendoscopes for ENT clinics.

Supporting Ophthalmology clinics - Performing Visual Acuities, Visual Fields and administration of eye drops.

Compliance with infection prevention policies and procedures.

In addition to the above it is essential that all patients are cared for individually, they may need assistance with personal care, manual handling and emotional support whilst in our department.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Provide support to the Multi Professional team under the direction of an appropriate Registered Health Care Professional within all areas of the outpatients department.
- This role can involve frequent walking and standing for long periods of time. The post holder must also have the physical ability to use manual handling equipment i.e. hoists, trolleys and wheelchairs.
- The post holder will be required to work flexibly and may be called upon to work at one of the other UHL in the Community sites,
- The post holder will be required to provide exceptional patient care for all our patients, while working with our trust values and applying them to your work.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Previous experience of working with people
- Demonstrates an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Support Worker
- Satisfactory written language skills as evidenced by at least 2 paragraphs of relevant supporting information
- A minimum of grammatical, spelling and presentation errors throughout the application form
- Must be IT Literate.

**Desirable**

- Previous experience in a care environment

### Training and Qualifications

**Essential**

- Must be able to communicate clearly in the English language, using terms that people in your care can understand.
- Demonstrates a commitment to further learning and personal development.
- Demonstrates the ability and willingness to undertake a core induction programme and NVQ2 or similar in care or as relevant.
- Satisfactory level of General Education
- Competent in, or willing to undertake training in Phlebotomy, Visual Fields, Visual Acuities & Skin Analytics, in addition to routine clinical observations and tests.

**Desirable**

- GCSE in English and mathematics or equivalent
- NVQ qualification
- Literacy level 2 or equivalent
- Numeracy level 2 or equivalent
