### Job overview

The postholder will support the dispensary manager in the day-to-day management of the dispensary. Core responsibilities include:

- Oversee daily dispensing traffic, manage queues, and resolve stock and prescription queries.
- Dispensing & checking - accurately dispense and perform final accuracy checks on items prepared by other staff.
- Supervise, mentor, and roster junior pharmacy technician, trainees, support assistants.
- Monitor inventory levels, manage controlled drug registers and destruction sessions.

- To partake in audits conducted within the Dispensary.
- To deal with verbal complaints, safety issues and investigate Inphase incidents.
- To investigate and resolve stock discrepancies (including controlled drugs).
- To take part in the routine destruction of Controlled Drugs alongside a delegated responsible person.
- To contribute to service developments within the department.
- To be able to follow departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- To be able to dispense inpatient, outpatient and discharge medication accurately.
- To competently counsel patients on the use of their outpatient medication.
- To contribute to wider policies that have an impact within the pharmacy department and across the Trust.
- To support the Dispensary Manager by contributing to the development of the Dispensary Services.
- To be able to use pharmacy computer systems correctly and enter data accurately from transcription sheets, prescription forms and any other prescriptions written by others.
- To ensure that data is stored and archived appropriately in accordance with local and regionally agreed guidelines.
- To be able to use initiative to appropriately prioritise work.
- Participate in the Departments Seven day working model which includes weekends, late night and bank holiday working rota

### Skills and Competencies

**Essential**

- Be able to provide, receive and relay factual information to inform colleagues, patients, and other members of staff important information
- Be able to make sound judgments in relation to Pharmacy Service issue
- Be able to organise staff in an efficient manner in order to provide an effective service
- Be able to concentrate on complex matters (activity analysis, workload allocation across the service, checking of dispensed prescriptions) despite frequent interruptions
- Be able to work in a busy demand-led service with occasional exposure to verbal aggression from individuals, be able to work on the ward, and in a busy Stores environment
- Able to participate in the late duty, weekend and bank holiday service rota

### Knowledge and Experience

**Essential**

- Knowledge of procedures for pharmacy services
- Knowledge of laws and regulations relating to an effective pharmacy service
- Knowledge of pharmacy computer systems
- Experience in a busy dispensary setting

**Desirable**

- Considerable experience working in a hospital pharmacy
- Experience working with Clinical Trials
- Experience in an outpatient pharmacy setting

### Education and Qualifications

**Essential**

- NVQ Pharmacy services Level 3 plus accredited underpinning knowledge (BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent) or equivalent
- Professional registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice
- Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician qualification, or currently undertaking
