### Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated dietitian to join our team of Renal Dietitians. The team consists of 2 Band 7 Specialist Dietitians and 3 Band 6 Senior Dietitians and a Dietetic Assistant.

The successful Dietitian will be responsible for providing a dietetic service to renal inpatients wards, outpatients clinics and haemodialysis areas including four satellite units across the region. This is a valued and integral role within the renal MDT and attendance and contribution at MDT meetings will be essential. You will also be involved in the training and supervision of  dietetic students and other healthcare professionals.

The STH dietetic department consists of around 65 Dietitians, plus dietetic assistants, and admin staff across 3 hospital sites and Sheffield community. We are a friendly, supportive, and innovative department with a commitment to patient-centered care and best practice.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate strong clinical skills, and excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.

### Main duties of the job

- To provide renal dietetic services to the adult regional renal unit, using a high level of skills and knowledge as an independent practitioner. This will include providing services to inpatient wards, outpatient clinics and haemodialysis areas. Clinics will include general nephrology, home therapies, transplant and conservative care populations.
- To contribute to the development and implementation of evidence based practice and the provision of specialist dietetic advice and education in the renal service.
- To assist in developing, reviewing and implementing the dietetic service, providing specialist advice and education to renal services, and work with other health care professionals in the renal multidisciplinary team to provide appropriate information in a variety of clinical settings.
- To provide supervision to the renal dietetic assistants, supporting the specialist dietitians in the operational management of the renal team.
- To assist the dietetic management team to ensure the overall service provides high quality patient care.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Substantial dietetic experience in a variety of clinical specialities
- Evidence of independent working
- High level of knowledge of a range of clinical conditions and current best practice for dietetic management, especially Nutrition Support
- Competent in behavioural change skills
- Evidence of continuing professional and personal development and commitment to continue through department appraisal system
- Willing to undergo further training at post registration level

**Desirable**

- Experience of working in an acute hospital setting.

- Due to the requirement to undertake satellite unit visits throughout South Yorkshire, the post holder is required to be either a car driver with a valid driving licence, or have access to an alternative means of transport

### Skills and Knowledge

**Essential**

- Able to document and record accurately in line with national standards
- Able to record activity and other data manually and electronically
- Familiar with and able to operate all necessary IT packages e.g. email, word, dietary analysis, power point
- Able to develop educational resources to meet the varying needs of clients and carers which are evidence based
- Awareness of clinical governance and its implications for dietetics including importance of audit projects
- Able to use literature review search methods and can critically appraise evidence
- Aware of regulatory bodies and professional bodies codes of practice and professional guidelines
- Competent skills in teaching and training other health care professionals and student dietitians
- Able to manage a caseload with frequently changing priorities, and deal with interruptions
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and team working skills
- Able to relate and communicate clearly at all levels with patients, colleagues, and members of the MDT
- Ability to work as an integral member of MDT and as an autonomous practitioner

### Education and Qualification

**Essential**

- 4 year BSc Nutrition and Dietetics or relevant degree with Post Grad Diploma in Dietetics
- Current HCPC registration

**Desirable**

- BDA accredited clinical supervisory skills course for training students
- BDA accredited Behavioural change, counselling, motivational and cognitive behavioural skills courses
