Job overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated, and skilled Radiographer to contribute to the delivery of a high-quality imaging service. You will play a key role in supporting a busy and diverse department that performs a wide range of examinations, including general X-ray, Theatres, Cardiac, CT (including CT cardiac and colons) and Interventional Radiology. Your base will be Colchester Hospital including travel to our Clacton and Harwich Hospitals.

You will join a department that supports its staff to pursue academic courses and develop their careers within a supportive and friendly environment. We are a teaching department and part of this role will be supervising our students and apprentices. In addition you will be an effective leader of the team and wider multi-professional healthcare team.

You will be an autonomous practitioner with proven post-registration experience who provides an effective, high quality individualised care to patients and relatives/carers and to contribute to the continuing development of radiology practice. It is desirable to have specialist knowledge of CT, Cardiac Catheterisation or Interventional Radiology procedures and practices.

It is a requirement to be flexible to undertake a 7 day rostered week, including lates, nights, weekend and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake all diagnostic imaging procedures to a high standard, ensuring optimum patient care and compliance with ionising radiation regulations across the imaging modalities in the Trust and in satellite departments without direct supervision.
  • Act with delegated authority as practitioner and modifies agreed protocols, undertaking most appropriate radiographic views to obtain diagnostic examinations
  • Deputise for area lead radiographer taking responsibility of managing the area on a day to day basis in their absence
  • Act as point of contact for general imaging enquiries acting appropriately, sensitively and professionally to ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times, seeking more senior support if appropriate
  • Communicate decisions and outcomes from enquiries to the relevant senior staff member
  • Liaise with peers of all professional groups, radiologists, other medical officers and technical staff in the delivery of high quality patient care
  • Supervise junior radiographic, and support staff including undergraduates, apprentices and those on clinical placement.
  • Ensure adherence to Radiation Protection legislation/governance and report breaches using the DATIX incident reporting system, including notifying senior staff/RPS as appropriate.
