Ealing NHS Talking Therapies was one of the first Talking Therapies services to launch in 2008, and is one of the three services provided by West London NHS Trust.

Our main base is in Ealing where we have access to over 16 clinic rooms and two open plan offices. In addition to this, we run clinics at GP surgeries across the borough, covering areas such as Southall, Acton, and Chiswick.

Clinical and line management supervision is part of our success, and as a qualified therapist you will benefit from weekly clinical supervision, monthly line management supervision, and monthly step 3 clinical skills.

We would love to hear from you if you are:

- A qualified modality practitioner with postgraduate training in counselling, psychotherapy or counselling psychology
- Fully accredited with the BACP or UKCP
- Trained in Talking Therapies approved specialist modality training: Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT)
- Able to demonstrate good therapeutic relationships with people
- An inspirational and collaborative team player with excellent communication skills committed to improving access to psychological therapies across the Ealing borough.

A typical week for a full-time clinician involves working at least one evening session (12pm–8pm Monday to Thursday) and achieving an average of 20 attended clinical contacts per week.

We consider flexible working and part time hours to the right candidates.

### Main duties of the job

Key Result Areas & Performance:

Clinical:

- To provide specialist Modality assessments of clients referred to the Ealing Talking Therapies service based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care.
- To work with clients with a range of mild to moderate mental health problems.
- To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client’s problems, and employing methods developed from evidence based practice
- To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, adjusting and refining psychological formulations and drawing upon different explanatory models. To be able to use Talking Therapies approved
- interventions/counselling at a specialist level in assessments and interventions.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients within an Talking Therapies service
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups and presenting problems that reflect a range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
- Experience at working with psychological Therapies at a specialist level.

**Desirable**

- Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
- Experience of the application of counselling in different cultural contexts
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a range of care settings. Including outpatient, community, and primary care settings

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Post-graduate training in counselling, psychotherapy or counseling psychology or post graduate training in another core mental health profession (nursing, Occupational therapy) plus a post graduate diploma or higher degree in counselling or psychotherapy
- Fully accredited with the BACP or UKCP (psychotherapeutic counsellor)
- Professional registration with the appropriate body E.G. Professional Standards Authority (PSA) or Health Professions Council (HPC)
- To have completed training in Talking Therapies approved specialist modality trainings for Dynamic Interpersonal therapy (DIT

**Desirable**

- Qualification in clinical supervision
- Qualified Supervisor in Talking Therapies approved modality therapy

### Knowledge/Skills

**Essential**

- High-level knowledge of the theory and practice of Counselling and psychotherapy
- Knowledge of issues relating to primary and secondary care psychological therapies services.
- Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (e.g. Medically unexplained symptoms, long term conditions and recognition of personality disorder).
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health

- Able to work flexibly and at least one evening session, until 8.00pm.
- Self-motivated, able to work autonomously and independently with confidence.
- Aware of the limitations in own competence and able to seek appropriate support and advice.
