Ward M1 is a medically optimised ward supporting older adults 74+, with a strong focus on safe care, dignity, deconditioning and discharge planning. We work closely as a multidisciplinary team to support our patients to maintain independence and achieve the best possible outcomes. M1 is a nurse-led, 30-bedded unit During winter pressures or Trust escalation, the ward may expand to 40 beds. We also provide overnight care for 1 or 2 dermatology patients (any age), usually nursed in side-rooms. Dermatology retains full clinical responsibility for these patients.

### Main duties of the job

Provide and support patients as necessary with both personal and clinical care activities.
- Maintain accurate records of the patient’s care, documenting as appropriate on the Electronic Patient Record (Cerner) in line with Trust, professional and departmental guidelines.
- Observe patients and reports any changes to a Registered professional for review.
- Report any abnormal findings directly to the registered professional in charge or doctor.
- Undertake a range of basic housekeeping, stock control and administrative duties within the clinical environment.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

A Clinical Support Worker (CSW) is responsible for providing healthcare to patients and supporting with basic clinical duties under the supervision of Registered Nurses, doctors and other registered healthcare professionals. Their role is essential in ensuring the well-being and comfort of patients during their hospital admission ensuring they receive high quality care. Clinical Support Worker (CSW) are required to work within the multidisciplinary team ensuring the department is a safe, clean and welcoming place for patients, visitors and staff. Day to day tasks will primarily include supporting with a range of personal care activities, supporting individual patient needs and undertaking a range of clinical duties in line with personal training, competence levels and Trust policy. CSW’s are fundamental to the implementation of individual patient care plans and will work under the direction of registered professionals and other members of the multidisciplinary team to deliver quality patient care. In addition to supporting with personal and clinical care, CSW’s may be required to support with a range of basic housekeeping and administrative duties to maintain a clean and safe environment.

- Previous experience and training of manual handling patients using appropriate equipment
- Can demonstrate an understanding of the importance of promoting patient independence

**Desirable**

- Able to provide support and reassurance to patients.

### Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

**Essential**

- Level 3 qualification (e.g. A-Level’s, NVQ3) in Health & Social Care OR A good standard of education to A-Level standard and the agreement to undertake the relevant Level 3 qualification on appointment.
- Experience working in a clinical environment an undertaking a range of relevant clinical skills with proven competencies.

**Desirable**

- Experience working in the NHS
