Applications are invited for Senior Clinical Research Fellows - This role offers a valuable opportunity for aspiring researchers to gain hands-on experience in Experimental Medicine clinical trials. As a Clinical Research Fellow, the primary responsibility is to provide medical support for a range of clinical studies conducted at the NIHR Lancashire Clinical Research Facility, part of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

The post provides an exciting opportunity to extend both your research and clinical experience in the supportive environment of LTH.

### Main duties of the job

The Clinical Research Fellow will be required to undertake a leading role in the initiation and delivery of clinical research studies and clinical trials, under the supervision of Prof D Hadjiyiannakis, NIHR LCRF Medical Director and experienced Principal Investigators.

You would join an excellent, friendly and compassionate research department, looking after patients on clinical research trials/studies across a large geographical area including 4 trusts.

We have an expanding research portfolio recruiting to national and international trials, as well as undertaking original research within the NIHR badged on-site Lancashire Clinical Research Facility. All our team are encouraged to develop their roles and skills within and outside the department to create an enjoyable, progressive and sustainable career.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

## Person Specification

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- MBBS or equivalent with full valid GMC Registration and hold a licence to practice
- In-date ALS training allowing direct medical responsibility for human investigations in the UK

**Desirable**

- Postgraduate specialist qualification e.g. MRCP or equivalent.

### Clinical Skills

**Essential**

- A minimum of 2 years working as a doctor in the NHS.
- Previous experience in clinical research and commitment to research.
- Ability to manage / lead emergency situations such as anaphylaxis, chest pain, hypoxia, hypoglycaemia, epilepsy, cerebrovascular accident, cytokine release syndrome and ICANs.

**Desirable**

- Experience in the conduct of clinical trials.

### Knowledge and Skills

**Essential**

- Audit work. Evidence of contribution to effective clinical audit and clinical risk management
- Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Effective communication skills
- Experienced in the use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Ability to discuss and appropriately escalate to the consultant(s) in charge the medical needs of patients referred to the CRF.
- Ability to learn and implement new study related clinical skills
- Experience of and positive attitude towards quality development
- Familiarity with electronic patient records
- Effective use of time and resources
- Good working knowledge of statistics
- Competent in required practical procedures such as cannulation, ABG and ECG

**Desirable**

- Familiarity with principles of clinical research, including Good Clinical Practice, pharmacokinetics, human toxicology, statistics and pharmacodynamic assessment.
- Management training
- Evidence of experience in the management of change
- Publication in peer reviewed journal
